BB Excuse: NCIX Product is different / OEM.
Answer: NCIX is selling the retail version of this product, you can see that both NCIX and BB carry the products with the same manufacturer's part number:
NCIX Part #: DTI/4GB & BB Mfr. Part Number: DTI/4GBCR
They are indeed the same; however NCIX left the suffix "CR" off. They can call to verify with NCIX if needs be.
BB Excuse: NCIX Online Reseller.
Answer: NCIX Retail Locations: http://www.ncix.com/contact/
BB Excuse: NCIX is wholesale.
Answer: NCIX is open to the public with no minimum purchases or membership requirements.
BB Excuse: Limited Quantity
Answer: It's a good deal and they want don't want a single customer to buy up the entire lot, just like BB limited quantity clause on extra hot deals.
BB Excuse: Limited to Stock on Hand
Answer: Every store has a limited stock on hand (even BB).
BB Excuse: Cash only
Answer: No, NCIX accepts major credit cards and debit cards without an extra service charge; you can also offer to pay with cash if you like.
BB Excuse: I can't give you the PM
Answer: Please provide me with your corporate contact for BB; I would like to make a formal inquiry with regards to the PM policy that BB so proudly advertises. Also, ask the manger for his business card. Some managers will sometimes change their attitude completely when they relize you me business and somehow PMs happen (Usually the manager will say: "I'll do it this one time.").
BB Excuse: Please step aside and will continue on the side
Answer: Sorry, but please complete my transaction first. (When I've previously stepped aside, they purposely tried to forget about me and hope that I would just disappear.) A growing lineup also places pressure on them to do the right thing, instead of trying to find excuses from underneath a rock to try to deny a legit PM.
BB Excuse: Talk amoung themselves. (delaying the situation, give them time to think up excuses)
Answer: I sometimes start talking about how difficult it's to get a PM with the cashier. Then I pickup the extended warranty plan brochure and ask the cashier if it's this difficult to obtain warranty through their extended warranty plan too (not too loudly, but loud enough for others in line to hear); two can play this game. Potential extended warranty sales disappears for the next few customers in line. One manager once lost it and took the brochure from my hand and placed it back on the stack and authorized the PM immediately.
BB Excuse: Umhhh
Answer: Please honor your lowest price guarantee policy.
BTW: Don't get rude about the whole thing, as this doesn't help the PM situation. Be a persistant customer, not a rude &*(&(*^! Please do not play the "race card" with regards to the management at BB, as myself and other RFDers has ran into managers from assorted races that try to denie PM (BB, BB & Staples included). If you're a real jerk, they can actually have security to remove you from their premises; just be polite and keep you cool (you'll get to stay).
Have Fun PMing!
Also, don't forget all the other Kingston products that BB & NCIX sells. Just confirm the MFG Part # on both the BB & NCIX before attempting to PM. A successful PM each time if you do your homework first!

Wow Z,
I wish you were there when I was trying to PM a PS3 blu-ray remote at FS from Superstore for $15. The manager simply said to me, "Yes, I am not following my policy because this does not even make any business sense!"
He was arguing the price of the remote was well below his cost.

I was denied a PM against Dell once because they said Dell didn't offer 1-2 day shipping on the item. Do you think they'll use that again? NCIX does offer 1-2 day shipping but it's $10, bringing the PM price to $21.40.

This isn't going to work. BB, FS do not PM NCIX.
1) - From their policy - "will be calculated to include all charges applicable for next day delivery to your home address"
- Bestbuy will calculate the shipping charge, and add that onto the price that they match. I looked it up, and it was $23 to my house in London Ontario.
2) - From their policy - "limited or minimum quantity" - There's a limit of 2 items. They won't honour it in this case. You write "FS Excuse: Limited Quantity
Answer: It's a good deal and they want don't want a single customer to buy up the entire lot, just like FS limited quantity clause on extra hot deals."
- Whats your point? FS, BB have limited quantity on some extra hot deals yes. But if you try to PM at walmart, saying that BB have a great price, they will say, ya but, it's limited quantities, and won't honor it.
3) - The $16.99 price is a coupon that you enter. BB, FS do not PM to coupons.
4) - FS Excuse: NCIX Online Reseller - Ya, their stores are in BC, etc, etc. They have to be in the area for them to PM.
5) I just tried it and was denied. Limited quantities, Retail store not in location, and they wanted too add shipping which brought it back up to regular price they were selling.

NCIX Part #: DTI/4GB & FS Mfr. Part Number: DTI/4GBCR
This one might be a deal breaker. I don't think it matters even if both are retail versions, as long as the part numbers are different, they consider it a different product, even if realistically it is exactly the same.

The policy clearly states they will add shipping costs, they will not PM on limited quantities, and will not PM on couponed items.
Not sure what u wanted him to look at.

I just came from FS in Courtenay and they have lots on hand and no problem with the price match other than the fact that they had to add $10 to the price because thats what express shipping would cost. So seeing I was in the market for a stick , it worked well for me, got a $82.99 plus tax stick for $23 and change. Thanks.

I wonder if as soon as the OP posted this, the FS/BB "managers" on this forum started circulating memos on countering the counterarguments.

Dang! I was gonna post this. But I planned to use another store - the end PMed price would be a little higher but I think it'll be easier to PM (in GTA at least), since Infonec has a few retail locations there, while NCIX is lacking those.
Same model drive - $20 at Infonec (http://www.infonec.ca/site/main.php?module=detail&id=330163).
I don't know what's happening to this model, but sales continue...
Same drive for the same price at ReachData (http://www.reachdata.ca/nw/main.asp?pid=3972&lg=0&acm=1)
There's hardly any excuse FS and BB can come up with against PMing these ones.

Might be a little faster than Kingston's in real-life speeds accordingly to some reviews.

I went to two Future Shop stores and a Best Buy this weekend and it was the same thing in each place.
I suspect that FS/BB retail stores found out about the sale and hid their stock of these drives. I called each store before going out and they all had the drives in stock. Mysteriously, when I got there, the drives were nowhere to be found. When I asked for assistance, the clerk verified in their inventory that they indeed had them in stock, but even they didn't know where they were.
In the third store that I went to (Future Shop Marché Centrale), I pressed on the manager to look for the drives and we found two of them in a nondescript black bin of miscellaneous crap behind the "computer upgrades" counter.
I took those drives down to the customer service desk for the PM and they gave me all of the regular song and dance. They're an online reseller (no, they have a physical store), give us the phone number and address (had it printed out and good to go), not an authorized reseller (printed out the Kingston site indicating otherwise). The one I didn't have a solid rebuttal for was "restricted sale". Apparently because NCIX limited quantity to 2 per person, that invalidates the whole thing.
Anyways, after about half an hour of BS, the manager agreed to give me the drives at $16.99 each, the price at NCIX. She stated that she would not honour the 110% policy because they were already selling the drives below cost and that "technically she had the right to deny the price match" on the basis that NCIX's sale was "restricted". When I asked the clerk next to her what a restricted sale was he had no clue. Furthermore, the manager could not produce any written policy precisely defining a restricted sale.
Anyways, this whole experience rubbed me the wrong way and I'm going to think twice about shopping at FS in the future.

I am not surprised at all, I rarely buy stuff from BB or FS unless I want to try something out really bad or I can PM for a really good price. They have all sorts of counter arguments for not PMing and most people end up wasting a lot of their time when they "verify" the PM.
If I do intend to PM though, I usually buy the product first hand then go back and argue for the price discrepancy. Works great if you are not far from the store and you can always leverage with returning the item (more effective if the item is costly) because then they have to sell the item as open box and from working in retail I know they hate that.

Don't be so fast to judge. I think PMing is kind of a game that takes some practice but is also somewhat depended on chance. I think the easiest way to PM is to choose a BIG LOCAL store, from which you find a lower price - the bigger the original store, the easier it will be to get a PM at Staples, FS or BB, and the fact that it's local will make it seem even more "legit". Even better if that store has multiple locations in your area. You may be able to get PMs from a small store with a single location, located in the next provice, but it'll be WAY harder, nearly impossible to do so.
Actually, I find the best way to PM is among the 3 big boxes store - they have a lot of similar items and when one of them is on a huge sale, it'll be almost a 100% chance of successful PM. The only thing that might set you back is a greedy manager or pain-in-the-butt employee. But then you can always just find somebody else to talk to or even go to the next nearest location of the store.
After all, isn't this how half a year ago I got my Logitech G5 for $23 at BB, when it was listed there for $90?..

Hello,
I tried to match the price of the USB stick to NCIX's sale price. Like usual they said no. It was a restricted offer. Then I asked for clarification of "restricted offer" ie. we won't price match on a full moon, time of day, etc. One of the customer service reps didn't know what a restricted policy was. The other agent said restricted offer means a limit per customer. I asked for a clarification in writing and all I got was "I'm telling you what it means".
I proceeded to call up Future Shop customer service and spoke with a "manager". I asked her what a restriced offer was and she gave me some other examples ie. buy a computer and get a $50 router, etc. Then I asked about limit per customers and she said "oh ya, that's a restricted policy also". I then asked her to send me in writing what was a "restricted offer" she wouldn't. I then asked her to give me a detailed verbal list of what a restricted offer is. She wouldn't. At last she hung up on me. Nice customer service........
I am staying away from Future Shop and their secret policies.
I have two witnesses to the coversation and have the manager's employee ID and name.

I have to say that FS's customer service has been somewhat lacking - I noticed that the Kingston USB's "disappeared" much like the political dissidents in communist Russia... maybe we should make a trip to Siberia to find the missing USBs along with anti-Stalin supporters (I'm not likening FS to communists, after all communists are FOR the people).
All this to say is that secret policies such as the unwillingness to provide a WRITTEN copy of their definitions is a little sketch. I noticed that FS put them on sale today for $48 less than original, so now the PM difference won't hurt them as much. Go free market!
I'm pretty soured after my own dealings with them, which were much like rob2337 and orakle's.
Boycott FS unless there's a retardedly good deal?

LOL,
Do you guys not even read their price match policy. I've even pasted it twice in this thread. Who cares about restricted offer, it clearly states in their policy, they won't PM for limited quality items.

Limited Quantity means just like it says on the ncix webpage
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=24490&promoid=1046
"Limit 2 per customer. "

Personally I think it is debatable. What is the term when a store has only 30 units for sale. Is that limited quantities? All I wanted is an explaination of the terms in their price match policy. All I got was a manager hanging up on me.

same crap happened to me at BB. Called the store ahead of time and verified that they had 5 in stock. Asked the rep to contact the computer dept to make sure that they were physically there...Check! They had them on the shelf.
I hung up with the rep and made it to the store in about 10 minutes and they were all mysteriously gone! Had them check stock and low and behold, they still had 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Complained to manager, but nothing doing, he "couldn't find" any!!!
This sucks! Oh well, gonna wait for them to be back on the shelf and hopefully price match NCIX's regular price.
Underhanded tactics from a major retailer, unbelievable!

This is already becoming a classic failure scenario of PM legends. Why not just ask them to put it on-hold for you? Will they claim that for on-hold items you have to buy them at listed price / ei. they won't do PM for items on-hold?

if you've been here long enough, this is the way Z posts his PM deals ;)
I hope Z posts more PM possibilities from here on out. It's so much easier to walk in with step-by-step instructions!
