Is this not insanely cheap??? The lowest price I've seen in store is $60+ for 4GB with a max speed class of 2. I ordered one but am I missing something?

Yeah, that's a decent deal for a Class 4. The best I've seen was a 1 day sale at PCVOnline which had them for 19.99 + 5.99 shipping. (Looking forward to a time machine comment :) ) Just too bad it wasn't a Class 6 though.

Is Patriot brand reliable though? I heard they were buggy with different devices, I'll be using it with my Blackberry.

Also, what's the difference between the ones made in Japan vs elsewhere?

Hmm really? I've heard pretty much only good reviews from Patriot, save the few unlucky souls who get dud products, which is bound to happen everywhere. Plus I've heard their customer service reps are great.

Not sure about Japan vs elsewhere though.

kingston's arent made in japan, but "assembled" in japan. (most likely parts from china and taiwan)
if its made in japan, i think at least 50% of the product is made there while assembled is less than 50%

pc village has the 2 gb microSD for $12.95, so 4 gb would be $26 if you pickup, but would be more if you require shipping.

Buying electronics on eBay is like sleeping with a cheap hooker. Sure you pay less, but in two weeks you'll have no idea what she gave you.

A lot of electronics sales on eBay are fake brand name devices. Not saying everything is, a lot of reputable buyers. But beware of electronics sales coming out of China.

I concur...bought a 2Gb SD "Sandisk" from a selller with...22000+ positive feedback. The card died after 2 months ...guess what: this "power seller" dissapears for good before taking any action against him.
Bottom line: especially if you're buying a card for a digital camera, spend the extra $$$ for your piece of mind. Those vacation pics are worth 100x more than the card.

I agree. A lot of stuff there is counterfeit. And the good counterfeits are virtually indistinguishable from the real thing on the surface.

Will this 4gb microsd card work with the 1st generation R4DS cards? I believe those R4DS cards max out at 4gb. Thanks for the confirmation.

its actually not supposed to work on ANY R4 card at the moment, because there are no R4 cards that support SDHC. 4gb SDHC and 4GB SD are different.

I just ordered a supercard ds 1 (because i sold my R4) so since it supported SDHC, i decided to buy a 4gb sdhc from my favourite store.

Roughly at the intersection of spadina and college, there is a store called Filtech Computers. (its actually on spadina, but very close to the intersection, it is on the same side of the road as the burger king and popeyes) I bought the Kingston 4gb micro sdhc class 4 for 28.50 + tax. came up to $32.21.

Then I didnt realize that there was a difference in classes, so i googled quickly, and i actually found this site/thread. So i signed up right away to share my experience.

what i noticed with that store was that when i bought the 2gb kingstons from there, i notice they have the taiwan one and the japan one mixed up and all for the same price. (and we all know the japan one works better with problematic games on DS flash cards:)) so what i want to do is go back when they are open (as soon as i bought it, they closed, so i couldnt go back to look to see if they had a higher class).

So tomorrow, if i get time, i will go back and ask to check through all of them to see if they have different classes for the same price:) never know. :)

Anyways, since this is my first post, i would like to say that im happy to join this community, it looks like a wonderful one with lots of helpful tips and information.

i was going to ask about the different classes but i actually found the answer out myself:).

how much do they sell 2GB kingstons for? The Japan ones I've seen can be had for $12-$20 but usually come from Asian stores which makes it hard to tell if they're real or fakes. Deal Extreme seems to sell fake ones so I'm weary of picking them up.

If you go back could you see if they have the 4GB version made in Japan? I ordered one from Dell but it won't ship until April 3 or later so I have time to cancel my order if I can get a Japan one from this store you're talking about. Thanks!

the 2gb, i believe, the last one i bought was $20, made in japan.

the 4gb i bought, lemme see what it says..since i bought it without any research.

maybe u guys would know if my 4gb is fake:

back of packaging says:
SDC4/4GBFE
Assembled in JAPAN

and on the card, it says:
C04G JAPAN

i might go back to the store tomorrow, so if anyone wants me to check anything out, just let me know. i always buy MicroSD's from them. :)

Besides, since i have to go to school down there everyweek, u can ask me to check anytime.

Last time when i went there in January, they didnt have anything over 4gb, and since that time when i asked them for it, seems they got it in. maybe i should ask them for 8gb, lol..and they might get it in as well:)

And again, whether they are fake or not, they work good in everything i use them in. and yes, always Kingston Japan (even the Taiwan one i got one time by accident worked good, lol)

I have two questions:

1) What is class 4 and class 6? What does that mean?
2) I have a Sansa e260 mp3 player which has a slot for micro sd card. Will this card work on it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Im fairly new to this as well, but what i picked up from reading this very thread, is that, class 4 is slower than class 6.

and based on the way that mp3 player looks, it seems like i seen it around for a while, chances are it doesnt support microSDHC cards, it only supports microSD cards. so u would have to look for an extremely slow (AND RARE) microSD 4gb..or stick with the more common regular 2gb microSD.

Thanks silvershadow for answering my questions. I have one more question, what is the difference between microSDHC and normal micorSD?

the HC stands for High Capacity if im not mistaken, thus allowing over 2GB in that tiny tiny card. and they are also significantly faster:) (not proven/tested by me though).

i believe so far, it goes up to 8gb SDHC, and i think 16 is on its way.
