I can make a trip over there on my lunch break. Will see if its a store-wide sale or just limited to the one location.
Pan's Labyrinth in HD for $7 would be pretty awesome.

Picked up the last Pans Labyrinth for $6.83 & also the last Hot Fuzz for $8.83 (not bad since it's a combo disc).
I was talking to the manager and she said she expects further drops on the other titles. Hopefully people will hold off on them until they're bellow that $10 mark (which is what I'm waiting for)

Yes, Napanee. I got the last of those movies but they still had Balls of Fury(which I am not interested in) and a couple dozen others at $12-$20 each. No Transformers or Zodiac though.

Eastern Promises- $8.83
Brokeback Mountain- $8.83

Apollo 13 -$12.83 (really wanted this title)

Had them scan the Bourne sequels, Zodiac, Transformers and Troy. Lowest price was on Troy for $14.88 as you mentioned. Everything else was regular price....I'll wait till the movies hit sub $10.

Went to Sherway and Islington / 401 Walmarts.
They have some of the sale movies. No stock of Pan's Labrynth.
Some prices which are in my opinion lukewarm at best, but maybe someone wants to get in on them:
Saw at Islington:
-Bourne Supr. - 12.83
-Bourne Ult. - 19.83
-Knocked Up - 19.83
-Chron of Riddick - 12.83
-Apollo 13 - 12.83
-Firewall - 17.83
Most of the movies are still regular price, for example Planet Earth is 89.83. In the end I bought nothing.

On in Winnipeg Shane. Atonement was sub $10 on rack no copies. Also as others mentioned Pans and East Promises were sub $10 none on rack too.
Called Empress wally at noon and they had no clue but employee on phone said that if they were on sale he would buy them all... I guess we know were they went when manager updated the sale. Zodiac, Planet Earth and Transformers were still reg price.
Wally in Linden Ridge did not have mgr avail to update prices (coming in tomorrow) but some scanned in at sale price. No sub $10 titles there except one copy of pan's which I picked up for myself (sorry Shane) after I had them call empress for updated price (pans still rang up at reg price).
But found a few bourne Supr for $12 and Potters, Troy and alexander there for $14... Price is not updated on the rack so they will still be around.
One copy of Kingdom is there at $40. Someone mentioned that it is on for $19... didn't realize that. Oh well that flick IMHO is a good movie for demo material.

PMing might prove to be difficult if they decide to check stock, ... most stores might be OOS of the cheap movie titles already by the time you ask for a PM, since most RFDers are going straight to WM to buy as opposed to PMing

Watched this flick in the theatre and found some parts to be disturbing but it is definately a classic flick. The HD-DVD version is a tad bit better in the HD extras vs Blu counterpart see excellent review on highdefdigest:
http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/panslabyrinth.html
This disc is also on for the collectors as it was New Line's only HD-DVD release before Warner left:
Quote from http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/1351
As for 'Pan's Labyrinth,' which hit stores late last year as the first (and only) New Line HD DVD release, the studio says that once current retail supplies are depleted, the title will be discontinued -- making it an instant collector's item.
IMHO this is an excellent buy for $7, a great addition to your HD-DVD collection. Since it seems like Wallys are pretty much picked off of the Pan HD's try a PM at FS or BB. This is one title worth the effort.
PS - I do blu too... So no I am not an HD fanboy. :)

Good luck Peggers! (Thanks OP!)
Thanks for the lookout. I found an atonement, but missed out on Pan's, would have even taken Balls of Fury.

Checked with all edmonton locations - deal is definitely NOT available here. ;(
I know I should just let this go, but dude, WHAT are you talking about? You actually checked them? Was the deal not available as you claim, or was there no stock because I know of at least two Edmonton locations that had multiple titles on sale and in stock as late at 6pm. My girlfriend checked Clairview and a friend called me from South Common.
Please clarify your wording to address STOCK levels, or explain further.
I'm trying not to be pissy, but please don't speak in absolutes when you're dead wrong. How many Edmontonians got screwed by you reporting "NO DEAL in ALL Edmonton Walmarts"?

So I went to the Belleville Wal-Mart.. They had "Eastern Promises" for $8. Picked that up... Beowulf was like 29.99 or some crap.. Each Harry Potter was 24.99 give or take a buck...
The Trenton Wal-Mart I couldnt find ANY hd-dvd's... So I asked the lady if they had any and she treated me like a moron. "Um, were you born yesterday? HD-DVD was canned; so obviously we sent all HD-DVD's back......" in the most sarcastic tone i've heard in a real LONG time... I was SO close to telling her off.. So is there anything actually good on sale.. all I keep on seeing posted here in Pans Lab... not my style.
Like is there a lot of different movies sub $10?
IMO Hot Fuzz is actually the best deal of any of them, $8.88 for a great action comedy and also one of the best looking HD DVDs. Tons upon tons of extras too

Damn. I was going to head to the SC location at around 9pm until I read that guy's post :(
I'll go first thing in the morning - hopefully some titles will still be available...
But it should be noted that I was there last week and most of the HD DVD movies were already gone. The only ones that the SC location had were new(er) releases. There weren't any of the older catalog titles available. I'm pretty sure a large majority of the titles were sent back.

To clarify - I called the locations in Edmonton and in Sherwood Park, and the CSRs all said that the titles were not on sale. Since you've so graciously added an addendum to that information, obviously the CSRs didn't check or scan the stock, or were lying about it.
I was at the Clareview location two days ago and they had a total of 8 HD-DVDs on the shelf (not on sale, obviously). Most of them were copies of "Balls of Fury". So I'm not sure what titles you're referring to, unless they've restocked since then.
So, now that your spaz is over, could you let everyone else know:
- what was in stock and where
- if pricing was identical to the rest of the thread.

Picked up an extra copy of Pan's Labyrinth while at the Hinton Wal Mart today. If anyone snags an extra copy of Eastern Promises, I'd love to do a trade and pay postage.
The other Edmonton posters were right, other than a couple of copies of American Gangster and Knocked Up, and some Harry Potter discs, along with other regular priced ones, there was nothing to be had. I looked. St Albert and Spruce Grove have no discs at all anymore.
Oh, there was 4 or 5 copies of Balls Of Fury at South Common. $8.83, bought one just to see Christopher Walkin in the show, that guy just does the wierdest roles...

Went to Sherway and Islington / 401 Walmarts.
They have some of the sale movies. No stock of Pan's Labrynth.
Some prices which are in my opinion lukewarm at best, but maybe someone wants to get in on them:
Saw at Islington:
-Bourne Supr. - 12.83
-Bourne Ult. - 19.83
-Knocked Up - 19.83
-Chron of Riddick - 12.83
-Apollo 13 - 12.83
-Firewall - 17.83
Most of the movies are still regular price, for example Planet Earth is 89.83. In the end I bought nothing.
i was only able to find Troy for $15. nothing was left that was <$15 :(
was considering Troy, but didn't think it was worth $15... maybe when it drops to ~$10 +/-
left w/ nothing too.

Checked out the three Walmarts in Mississauga early this morning. As reported above, the Erin Mills store only had one cheap title left, Balls of Fury (several copies left).
The 401/Argentia store had none of the cheap titles, but had a bigger selection than the first store. Reduced price titles I saw there that weren't at the first store included Bourne Supremacy & Ultimatum (quite a few copies), The Kingdom, and Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
Square One was a complete write-off. I never even noticed them having high-def movies before; I had to circle the floor a few times before realizing they're in a low glass case, stacked vertically on their sides! There was nothing of interest left (if there ever was).

There were others that were $14.83 such as Caddyshack and the older Harry Potters. I was surprised at the number of titles that they actually did have.

Went before University and picked up Knocked Up, Bourne Supremacy, Bourne Ultimatum, and American Gangster. Not sure if I will keep all of them but wanted to get them just in case, Selection was crap though. Nothing under the $12 I paid for Bourne Supremacy (I know $12 is the regular online price now but saved having to wait for it and shipping costs from Amazon or border tax from DD. For the people who are interested (I know a few from Kingston visit this board), they have copies of the 4 I got, We Were Soldiers, Troy and Alexander from what I can remember.

just tried 2 walmarts - Super Center in Vaughan is mostly cleared out, they have a handful of Harry Potter at the counter (checkout) by the video games section. Other than that, all they had on the shelf was Beowulf and a few other titles.
Thornhill store has more than Vaughan, but they're both out of Pan's Lab. They do have Riddick and American Gangster to name a few (Payback as well). I picked up all 5 Harry Potter from Thornhill, but the latest 2 were $17.83. Total for all 5 was 89.99 - comparable to Amazon.com if you have to pay tax & duty, but I'm thinking if I should risk ordering the Gift Set from Amazon now for $71.49 instead ...

Edmonton Capilano Wal-Mart has a reasonable selection of HD-DVD (2 shelves on an end unit near the front of the Electronics section).
Most are in the $15 range ($14.66 and $14.83).
Some of the titles I saw for $15 were Alexander, Troy, 300, Aeon Flux, Aviator, Tomb Raider, the Harry Potter movies, Top Gun, and a bunch of older titles.
Bourne Ultimatum was just under $20.
There were still some at regular price (I.E. Transformers and Happy Feet were priced at regular price, and scanned in at regular price when I checked).
Nothing under $14 as far as I can see (probably cleaned out by fellow RFDers already).

The disks don't actually take that much to make. That was one of the main benefits of HD DVD to a company, they are made using the same process and machines as regular DVDs whereas BluRay require new machines and factories to build. I would assume they do take more then DVD.

Did you read that somewhere or is it based on the fact that HD-DVD is an extension of DVD technology whereas BD is a different laser/disc layout (just asking out of curiosity, not doubting you)
I wouldn't go as far as saying a new factory is needed though.
I wouldn't be surprised if it cost under $0.25 to physically make the discs. No idea how much the licensing costs. It's like the gas price breakdown you see at the pumps, except it's not the government taking the big cut (at least not this time)

If this deal doesn't appeal to you then move on.
By the time movies are at $5 it'll only be movies from 40 years ago where the transfer job was terrible and only on par with SD DVD.

Given the fact that some people here "got paid" to own a HDDVD player, spending $15 for a movie is like having Scarlett Johansson flirting with them.
It's a wet dream come true.
If you can buy a BD player for $50 and get a $50 GC, I bet you'll do the same.

I think it is common knowledge on BR blogs that all HDDVD players will soon explode and possibly burn the whole house on fire. Obviously the more HDDVDs you buy the better chance it may happen...:D

I picked up these titles at Richmond Hill Walmart last night:
American Gangster $19.83
Bourne Ultimatum $19.83
Chuck & Larry $19.83
Reaping $17.83
Beowulf $29.83
I've decided not to keep them. But if any of you happen to be interested and want to make sure you can secure a copy, I can sell them to you at cost, before I return them to the store.

Langley Walmart has no clearance HD-DVD's, the employees looked at me like i was making it up because their HD-DVD's are still priced at $30-$35
I was there last night and they didn't have any clearance prices marked, but some scanned in at a discount. I checked 4. Troy was $14.xx (picked that one up), 300 was just under $20, Bourne 2 & 3 were at regular price. Those were the only ones that interested me.

i'm doubting ^that would happen,... by that time, there wouldn't be any HD-DVDs remaining (except maybe for crappy titles)...
most on here are buying all the ones that are ~$10 or less.
by the time it actually hits $5 (if it does), there prbly won't be any left.

was in the Barrhaven Walmart, and they had a pretty good selection of movies. had Atonement in my hands, but it had a $32 price tag on it, then a walmart UPC on the back for the same price, I scanned the real upc but it wasn't found in their system, guess that walmart didn't get the memo. Brang it to the cash, and the cashier was useless, so I just gave up on it.
I'm not really interested in that movie, but was gonna pick it up to see if anyone wanted to trade.

I visited the same location this afternoon - saw the same stuff that you did. I really wanted Pan's Labyrinth and Children of Men but it had neither.

Went this morning just before university... still 3 shelves of HD DVD left (5 of Blu).
Wasn't able to find Pan's nor Eastern Promises, but I did pick up...
- Inside man 12.83$
- The Chronicles of Riddick 12.83$
- Face/Off 14.83$
- Beowulf 4.83$
Yes!!!! You've read that right!
There was 3 copies of Beowulf with a green sticker price of 14.83$. It scanned at 29.83$. So I got the price protection thing... 10$ off because it scanned higher than the stickered price!
There was two other left... I will see if I could grab those tomorrow... they might have corrected their mistake, if anybody is interested... let me know!

I managed to pick up Eastern Promises for 8.XX and Apollo 13 for 12.XX in a Mount Pearl store last night. There was a bunch of sale but I already own so many that there was nothing there I wanted.
A friend bought Chronicles of Riddick and Pitch Black for 12.83 each.
I would love to find Atonement though, but I checked every store. All the St. John's stores stopped getting HD DVD's a nice while ago so whatever they have left was sent back to companies. For some reason they did stock a new HD movie every few months or so, so I guess they weren't dropped completely.
EDIT: Very nice deal on Beowulf btw. I wanted to pick it up but at 30 dollars I wasn't that interested. All the copies around here too had the original price stick on it too, so I guess you got lucky :)

Yea I didn't bother scanning the Transformers as I already have that. But Amazon and DeepDiscount were the couple of sites having some great sales on HDDVD's a while back. has anyone tried to price match with FS or BB??
I went to Richmond hill futureshop today and was able to get them to price match Pan's Labrynth for $6.83. Sorry no more copies were left.
What I did was, I showed the manager the receipt posted on this thread of Wal-mart selling the hddvd for that price. The manager said if we call Wal mart and they confirm the price, then we'll price match it. So they called wal-mart and ofcourse the associate working there had no idea of the price reduction and said no we dont have it for sale. The Futureshop associate then told me sorry no deal.. So then me being so vigilant, I called up walmart myself read them the upc code from the hd dvd, they were able to check their system and thankfully it showed up as 6.83, so i got the futureshope guy to call walmart again they confirmed it and i got the price match :)..
You guys can try this out at other futureshops or bestbuy.. but i think i got lucky cause usually the product has to be in stock at walmart for them to pricematch it. if anyone wants i can scan my receipt as proof.. :)....

I would say more than $10 if you include licensing. I don't think the stores make a tonne off of discs - It's the studios that get the most money.
More like $1 LOL (well probably $2 at most).
Well wnet to the following...
New Wesminister
Surrey Guilford town center
Surrey 88th
Only 88th still had multiples of HarryP titles in stock not at the sale prices. NO Fuzz and no Labyrinth though, all stores seemed to have been raided (got there midday), I think the sale has been on at New West for a few days at least - The employees mentioned repricing them yesterday - and most WM's are slow to do that lol
Methinks someone thinks the resale value is good LOL The movie networks would have to be nuts not to atleast consider making combo (DVD/HD-DVD) discs - and there is at least one to come 'I am Legend' on April 8th :)
Edit: Thinking on Gulford I think had the Bourne Ult there. oh and so did New West.

Felt a bit embarrassed doing this, but I did the same as farx8, except got Eastern Promises and Pan's Labyrinth. They didn't call or anything, just checked the UPC #s on the receipts. But they weren't thrilled, especially when I was pulling out the scan from the early post for Pan's. I had a receipt already for EP that I successfully purchased earlier from WM.
No 10% price difference, but they were nice enough to do a price match when there was no way anything was in stock. Still wish I had gotten Stark Trek S1 when it was available...

Unbelievable...they must've dropped their prices recently!
Says it all. All titles that are on sale in Walmart are available online at hmv.ca as we speak.
Happy shopping! Search for "HDD" under DVDs, and sort by price.

If anyone sees a significant pricedrop on Heroes, could you be so kind as to alert this thread (a PM would be very much appreciated as well!). 3 copies left at my local, but no change from $90 price so far.

You have to click the "free shipping" option at checkout. But this is only available if your total order is $39 or more. Oh yeah - one more thing - on my order status now it says "awaiting for supplier to fill order". Now if the suppliers aren't supplying any more HD's then.....good luck?

I was told by the employee at one Walmart that it began on Fri 21st. Apparently they even changed the price stickers for the sale titles. I guess the other Walmarts just got around to it a few days later, and in some cases not at all lol
that's weird.
s/b i "know" working at WM claimed that the sale started the day this deal was posted, which was the same day i went to WM to search for the HD-DVDs (but to no avail., all good ones were OOS)

On Wednesday night (this past week) all the sale titles were still scanning at reg price here in Windsor - Thursday morning (27th) they were all discounted...
Then again - we had the GCN memory cards still scanning at $20 when they were $5 everywhere else...

a recent flyer advertised the GCN MCs for $4.93 "EDLP", so i can't understand why your's is scanning at $20.
if you can still find that flyer, bring it in and apply SCOP to get it for free

I picked up some extra copies for my brother, but he actually picked up his own today as well.
So i have Still sealed copies of :
Lucky # Sleven
Pan's Labyrinth
Eastern Promises (HD / DVD combo)
Hot Fuzz (HD / DVD combo)
Basically i'd like to trade for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, or Lost in Translation which i couldn't find.
I'd also be up for potentially other HD DVDS (Blu-Ray too!) They don't have to be sealed.... just in excellent condition.
I'm located in Etobicoke (401 & Islington) is anyones interested PM me.... otherwise i'll put them on craigslist.

I picked up extras of Bourne Identity and 300 from the Best Buy deal...anyone want to trade for Batman, Transformers, or Superman Returns or any Blu-Ray movies you may have from the Wal-mart deal? I'm especially looking for Planet Earth or Ultimate Matrix Collection and I'm willing to pay cash for the difference.

i checked a Wal-mart super centre in Edmonton's south common.
I scaned a few HD-DVD using their "price check" and I only find Troy HD-DVD is marked down 14.99.
I also tried Departed, Blue planet and Blood diamond but they still come up as regular price, the same as their stickers.

Just a notice for people still trolling Walmart for deals (like I am :)), some of the stores have pulled ALL the HD DVDs from the sales floor.
Both the Scarborough Town Centre and Islington/401 stores have done this as of last night, I don't know if other stores will start or whether it was strictly an in-store decision.

What is Walmart's return policy?
I bought Bourne Ultimatium for $20 then bought it from BB with a GC for $19 (hoping it goes down soon).
My Walmart has not dropped the prices.

some employee at local at local walmart messed up. Got the kingdom for 4.66$ and Knocked up for 4.83$. The kingdom scanned in at 19.83 and stick was 14.83 so got it for 4.83$ ( -10$ for scanning policy). Same thing with Knocked up scanned at 19.83 and sticker was 14.66$, so got it for 4.66$ ( -10$ for scanning policy). At first the girl was like ok we will leave you one at 4.66$ and they other at 14.83$. I told her no they both get 10$ off seeing as it is not the same item. She called over the manager and he told her i was right. 10.71 tax included for both movies. These were last copy of both movies in store. :)

a MOVIE IN DIRE NEED OF EDITTING.
TOO LONG.
Assassination of Jesse James could have used an editing much more then American Gangster. Although I think both would have been better around the 2:10 or 2:20 mark, rather then the 2:40-3:00 mark.
At least they didn't release the monster 4 hour cut of Assassination of Jesse James...

The Edson location still had around 100 HDDVDs.
Pans Labyrinth 6.99
Hot Fuzz 8.99
Eastern Promises 8.99
There were a bunch @ 12.99, 14.99,17.99, and 18.99:
TMNT
Bourne Ultimatum
The Invasion
Alexander
The Departed
Troy
and a lot of others I can't remember.
I considered grabbing some Pans and Fuzz copies for traders but decided trading was way too much of a hassle.
