If you are in the market for a portable value laptop, this is a decent deal. Nice thing too that you don't need to PM or use coupons, just has to be in stock.

Final notes:
For those of you who got it @ $599.96, congrats~ I still don't understand how STOOPLES could jack their price up to $797 when the laptop has been on clearance @ $699.96 for around a month. Very dissapointed...
Some people have said that some stores still have the clearance tags at $699.96. So with a *YMMV*, you might be able to get it at $599.96 ($699.96 - instant $100 discount) ...

Credit to driverso who pointed out the deal for $100 off + free printer for toshiba clearance laptops. This is also a repost of the http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6602459 however in nzoka post, the free printer deal was not mentioned.

Unless something has changed, a product at Staples is (almost always) only considered clearance if the price ends in a 7 (like $697 or $699.97). Because of this, you might have trouble getting the extra $100 off.

well, if you look at the product webpg provided by OP, it's clearly stated as clearance....

I just called and there are two locally.

The instore price is 797 on there system while the online price is 597. They said they cannot sell it at the 597 price because it is not advertised as such in their stores and further, they would not honour the web price because they are separate entitities, instore and online.

So... I called Head Office who reiterated same. They are completely separate from one another and if they choose not to honour the online price before discount, so be it.

Go figure.

if you can get it for 599. take it no question. Best price for a 13.3" notebook so far. For 799, that would depend on if you NEED it now or not. Technology always has a way of ... depreciating ;)

What store did you get your laptop from? Was it the last one? I purchased the last open box unit from the Staples at Sherway Gardens but had to return it because the hard drive was defective.

For $99, the 2 extra years may be worth it because their warranty also covers the battery according to their computer salesperson. However, I'm not sure how difficult it would be to get items fixed under their extended warranty.

From Edmonton store and it was a last open boxed one.

It seems to run fine, aside from it being a little warm, I really like it

Long story but in end it took me 2 trips each to 2 different stores to get this one but this is the reason why:

There seems to be some sort of "tag printing" error. As someone pointed out the clearance sticker says $699.96 however when that exact tag is scanned into the system, the $797.00 price comes up from their "AS400" system. The 1st store was willing to transfer one of the laptops to their location for me but couldn't get through so they recommended that I go to the other location which had 7 in stock and buy one if I was worried about them running out. When I got to the 2nd store (again - the 1st time I dropped by there, this model wasn't on display anywhere nor was it listed in their "clearance board" of laptops. This time I asked them to check their stock of this laptop (they needed to call back the 1st store to find out the SKU because they had no idea about the laptop).

Got one out and also decided to bundle the printer (my dad needs a new one) and mentioned the $100 off clearance Toshiba laptops. When I got my receipt I noticed the $797.00-$100.00 pricing and pointed out that it was supposed to be $699.96-$100.00 as per the pricing posted at the other store. They refused to honour the pricing because they didn't have a tag and the system showed otherwise (fair enough) however they confirmed that I could get refunded the difference plus taxes at the 1st store (which I did ). Was rather funny because the manager and employees commented how "stupid" the other location was being! ;)

Wife's quite pleased with the less bulky sizing (I really wanted a Core 2 Duo but realistically there's not need for it ;) ) - now to look into XP'ing it! ;)

Pretty good, the processor while faster in clockspeed is only about the same performance overall Pentium Dual Core T20xx Series cores are Yonah processors while the T23xx are Merom cores, Merom's are Yonah + 20% clockspeed + 64bit.

Good deal if you can live without 64Bit Processing.

I really like the size and weight of the unit. What I didn't like are all of the fingerprints left on the case from opening and closing the unit. I'm trying to find another unit in Toronto.

I have heard the NS1 (U300 older gen) series gets quite hot as mentioned in this thread -> http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=483768.

However, Toshiba has seemed to fix the heating issue with the TP2, AY1 and AY3 (current gen U300 series).

The recent U300 series does an excellent job of controlling heat thanks in no small part to the massive copper heatsink visible through the air vent on the left side of the notebook
http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/25809.jpg
If you look at the figure above, you can see the copper heatsink right beside the blue VGA port. I wouldn't say it's "massive", but I have not heating issues whatsoever with either TP2 or AY1.

Here are some additional pics from notebookreview.com for the US model. Note that the Canadian TP2 model has a 6 cell battery so doesn't have the bulky battery sticking out, as shown in the first and last pics. Also there is no big red sticker on left panel as shown in the second figure.

Both me and my friend bought the U300-TP2 plus the MIR MP210 printer. The reason why I posted this as a YMMV was not because of the pricing error issue. It's because you might not get the deal due to local inventory being out of stock. IMO, the store should definitely honor the price of $599.96 ($699.96 original - $100 instant). Just like mangoman, the store I went to did not have any tags and the only laptops were in the back room.

Some advice:
If the store has it in stock, I find having a printout or item # ready is useful, so you have evidence to show. For my friend, the cashier was adament about the price being at $797 and I told her please check the staples.ca website while providing her with the item #719790. Once she saw the price on the staples website, she called the Manager who used a price override to put the laptop at the after $100 discount price of $599.96.

You can also tell them the TP2 has been a clearance item for the past few weeks and it's price has remained at $699.96. I actually tried to purchase a TP2 online back in the end of February but it was OOS!!! At that time, the price was still $699.96 and it had just become clearance.

Edit:
Well looks like Staples.ca jacked the price to $797, so having a printout is pretty much useless now. BUT If the store still has the tags at $699.96, you might be able to get it at $599.96 still. YMMV and good luck!

Are you sure there was a price correction?

Yes, the cashier had to override the price to the 699.xx and then apply the $100 of as per the flyer.
Although I did not take particular notice, maybe the price tag on the board and that on the shelf had dates before today (i.e 26th March) so tehy could not say the price tag included the $100 rebate as per the flyer.

Just got back from Staples in Barrhaven, ON where I got this one for $597. I think they have one left. I noticed the clearance board and was considering it at $699 before the assoc. told me it was $100 off. It seemed too good to be true so I wanted to check here to see if it was worth keeping. Great to see people are still getting it for $599. If the store has tags at $699.96 then you can most likely get it for $599.96. Just bring the tag with you to the cashier~

I noticed that this thing had the TV-Out as one of the specs, is it a s-video port?
I don't have the laptop with me right now, but I'm pretty sure there is no s-video port, just VGA. Me thinks the TV-Out spec was a typo~

Nope - no TV-out on the U300-TP2, only VGA connector. The 15.4" A200-TH1 has S-video out if you don't care about the screen/laptop size. I was torn between that one with the better specs and the portability of the U300-TP2 (quite happy with the decision now as the Pentium Dual-Core is def. good enough for our uses) - however if I didn't care about lugging the laptop around the globe then I'd go for the the 15.4" one.

I noticed that this thing had the TV-Out as one of the specs, is it a s-video port?
