View Full Version : WiiKey 1.9s Firmware and Config Disc Download
Avenger
Mar 26th, 2008, 10:18 AM
I have hosted it on my site, as well as linked to other sources so we can all enjoy flawless performance on our WiiKey's! This works on genuine WiiKey's as well as certain clones.
The firmware is the final 1.9s from the WiiKey team. Feel free to report any issues in this thread.
WiiKey 1.9s Firmware and Config Disc (USA ONLY):
ModMonkey (http://modmonkey.ca/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=20&Itemid=36)
WiiKey 1.9s Config and Firmware Discs (USA/JAP/PAL):
WiiKey (http://wiikey.cn/resources.html)
WiiNewz (http://wiinewz.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=4)
Note you DO NOT need to update to previous firmwares first, you can update straight to 1.9s. Also be sure to get the correct firmware and config disc for your region.
Updating Firmware:
To update the WiiKey, you need to burn the firmware disc for your region using IMGBurn or Nero. Simply insert it into your console and load it. It will detect as a GameCube game. Once loaded, it will prompt you to hit A to test. Once completed, hit A to load the next screen, and A again to update (it will warn you not to power off the Wii). Once done it tells you to hit A, which will reboot the Wii. Update done! I am not sure if the reset button can be used for those who do not have a GameCube controller, but it was possible in previous updates.
Config Disc Usage:
Simply load the disc and select the options you want to use. Please note current settings are not displayed/saved in memory, so the settings the disc shows may not be what you have set up - simply set it, save it, and reboot, then your Wii is all set! Be sure to only use the disc for your region.
Reported Issues:
-some GameCube Audiofix working inconsistently
-if update blocker and dev mode are turned on some games may not run such as Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Enjoy!

im pretty sure the reason the config disc is not authorized by wiikey team yet is because there are still going to be some changes from the beta they distributed to us. Ive already reported some things that they are looking into atm. so it might be best just to stick with doing the reg update for now.

no need to filechop the 1.9s update file?
I have used it fine without doing so.
As for this being a "beta", I have been testing and the only problem I have found was that the firmware update blocker didn't seem to kick in consistently. Other features seem to work fine. Anyone else had any issues with the config disc?

thanks for the great post... however, I'm such a newb at this, could you please let me know how to burn the update disc - I've read that you need imgburn program to do it, while others say just use nero, etc.
Also, can someone please confirm if the reset button on the wiimote can be used instead of gamecube controller... Thanks.

To burn the disc, you can use any program as long as it can burn iso files. I prefer imgburn myself.
I haven't tried the update, but previous ones allowed for the use of the reset button instead of gamecube controllers.

I read from the net that you have to turn on "All Region" before updating to 1.9s. Is that really true? If not, what is the need of the config disc?
I currently have 1.3. Thanks

I updated my WII using the 1.9X ISO from the main wii key website. I am wondering whether there is difference between 1.9S and 1.9X?
Yes you can just use the reset button if you don't have a gamecube controller.

for those still confused you can watch the youtube videos I made quickly when I was doing the beta testing. It will say 1.9x instead of s, that was because the update was for beta testers, but they ended up using the same one for final since it worked great anyway.
Video 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMnQl32f2cs - wiikey setup disc update
Video 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=398VVR0ARz4 - wiikey config disc preview
I posted this stuff in the other thread I had made about the wiikey 1.9s update but incase anyone missed it.

the main fix is that Smash Bros Brawl original retail game will work.
also from what I was reading games will now run at 6x instead of 3x which the 1.9g was at.

Thanks Avenger. Very helpful.
For all those asking how to burn the update/config disc, some can burn the ISO with ImgBurn or Nero, that is downloaded from Wiikey official and it will become a 1.35GB disc. Others will have to pad them using FileChop. I don't have the instructions on how to do that right now, so if someone else can explain?

It is only a couple more days until the official config disc hopefully. I hope they make certain that the 6x and the Block Updates works 100%.

100% safe, but it is being advised by many that you shouldn't update to the latest if you can help it as it disables the signer and homebrew (will activate in future). It is just speculation at this point, and all current discs/games/mods will work fine, just you run the risk of future exploits being blocked.

It just resets the Wii when I choose to play the disc. I am using a RW but I will filechop it and see what happens tomorrow, or try the official release.

On RW's you can leave it open/erasable, but some players/consoles have trouble if the disc is not finalized.

okay - update my wiikey with 1.9s, and updated the wii's firmware... but didn't do any form of config on the wiikey... everything seems to work, including backups of SSBB and Mario Galaxy...
However, SSBB NTSC retail disc does not work. When I put it in, it was pretty loud when reading the disc... got to the loading part of the game, and just seems to keep trying to read the disc... then about 2 minutes later - an error message appears and ask to eject disc and power down.

if you got to the loading part id figure the chip has done its part, but the problem is likely laser related. Odd that the backup would would read though and not the retail pressed disc. Did you try the retail right after updating? The remedy for this by nintendo is power down with the disc in and then power up again (or something along those lines).

yup, tried it right after the update... thanks for the advise, I'll give that a try when I get a chance (it's was actually my cousin's machine that I help update and tested his retail disc... updated my wii too, but have not tried his retail disc in mine).

in the video i was using the 1.4 config disc that I made an image from when wiikey team sent me the files for testing. there is a leak version of it available now. im not sure when a finalized one will come up but the leaked one seems to do most things fine after futher testing. According to GBATEMP:
SOLUTION:
1. Extract the downloaded archive in winrar
2. Open winrar and then open the extracted cfg.1.9x.us.iso file
3. Double-click that file in winrar
4. Extract what looks to be the same file to a different location

So far I have found Dev Mode and Update blocking to be a pain in the butt and cause problems with games such as Brawl and Mario Kart. I would keep them off and just make sure you do not use PAL (European) or JAP (Japanese) games to update your Wii. Domestic games are safe.

Hi, I have question.
First of all, how do i know which firmware do I have? I got my Wii modded by someone so I'm knew to this firmware/config thing for the Wiikey.
My concern is, I can play SSBB and Mario Kart, but I can't seem to load a few other games (mainly Harvest Moon, Bust-a-move, and Naruto). I'll be able to see the Game from the Main Wii Channel, but once I click start, it stays on a black screen and my wii remote disconnects.
I've updated my system with a non-domestic game. Is this the cause? I know I can't access my Wii settings (i.e. change the tv aspect ratio) as it games it an error about unable to find a file and something to do with Opera. I was told to fix this Wii setting access, I have to wait until a Domestic games comes up that requires an update, it is then this problem will be fixed. Is that true? and is there a way to fix the problem of unable to load the 3 games mentioned above?
Thank you! Would really appreciate any help.

Everyone is saying to buy a legit wiikey. After some unbelievable pains (that I wont go into) I learned that the clones work just as well as the legit wiikeys. However, if you have wii firmware above 3.0 (3.2 is current) then you have to hex edit a boot disc and start with update 1.2 before 1.9s. This is because the clones did not come shipped with software on them and update 3.0 blacklisted the setup discs.
The symptom that you have a clone and 3.0 or higher firmware . . . is that no original will boot and no discs will read except that one hex edited GCOS boot disc (boot loader). Some update discs will show the gamecube logo but fail to load- this is the telltale sign.
After the 1.9s update, the clones are functionally identical to the wiikey- unless u buy some homebrew kinda alien clone.

Not all clones are upgradable. Only certain ones are. Atmel clones usually are, unless they are programmed incorrectly with bad fuse settings. I have seen numerous clones that can't take updates. Just be sure to buy somewhere reputable that can guarantee upgradability.

Not to pull a dead thread back but I wanted to say thanks. I have not updated my wiikey for years and still had 1.9b on my wii. I only got the chip to play backups of games I had and I have not had to update my wiikey since everything has been running fine up till tonight. A friend brought over his backup of Punch Out and as soon as I put it in there was a problem... I had already updated my Wii to 4.0U as it is connected to the internet every few weeks to check for updates. As soon as Punch Out tried to load I got
"Error 001 : An unsupported device had been detected..."
Well I fired up google and found my way here, dloaded the files and updated my wiikey to 1.9s and Boom goes the dynamite I was up and running.
Only gripe, I liked the wallpaper from the 1.9b update more than the wallpaper for the 1.9s update. :D
Thanks all.

Hey guys, really glad this thread is here. I have a wiikey installed in my wii and It can load all my old backup discs. I have some newer ones and get the "error 001, unauthorized device detected" error. So I downloaded the 1.9s update and used imgburn to burn onto a verbatim dvd-r disc. the wii sees the game as a nintendo game but when i hit start it says "an error has occured. press the eject button, remove the game disc, and turn the power off. Please read the wii operations manual for more information". I've searched this error everywhere and have cleaned out my wii with compressed gas, unplugged the ac adaptor overnight, put the unit on it's side and loaded the game, tried burning again but it still will not work. Some may suggest that the laser needs to be replaced but then why does it read all other backup discs no problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

well in terms of priority besides being occupied with finalizing fusion aka wiikey v3 ,update for drivekey, wiikey2 and d2pro, are more likely to happen first. hopefully we will see an update for wiikey 1 still, but from what I believe happened, changes in the development team occured when the d2ckey came out so its hard to say how much they will be able to do with it.
