Expected release date: Oct 2009
Let's hope that we'll get to see it on the big screen like we got to see the first when that one came out 10 years ago! By the way, Shu Qi is not returning.

Storm Warriors Obtains Production Permit
Hong Kong-China co-production "The Storm Warriors" has received a production permit from China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television after a three-month wait.

It is one of the first films to do so since the loosening of censorship guidelines in early March, as the film's script contains a good deal of violence. The film will be shot entirely in Thailand against bluescreen, and could not begin shooting until SARFT gave it the go-ahead.

The film stars Aaron Kwok, Ekin Cheng, Simon Yam, Nicholes Tse and Charlene Choi and is directed by Danny Pang.

The film is based on Ma Wing Shing's popular Hong Kong comic book "Fung Wan". It was originally entitled "Storm Riders II" before the rename to "The Storm Warriors". It is sequel to the original "Storm Riders" directed by Andrew Lau and released in 1998, also starring Kwok and Cheng.

Set for release at the end of 2009, the film has a reported budget of US$12 million.

This one is going to be a miss for me... Pang Brothers are made of fail. But the anime movie that's coming out this year looks pretty sweet:

As much as I'm not a big fan of Andrew Lau's movies, the first film was made pretty well. (Let's face it, folks! The Infernal Affairs movies were only good because of Alan Mak and Felix Chong.) Despite the omissions (nixing out Duen Long...etc) which deviated the original story quite a bit, it really worked as a movie. And it had pretty good production values. The CGI was done well at its time and was unlike anything for a Hong Kong movie back in 1998.

The Pang Brothers worked on the first Stormriders as well so it would be interesting how their take on the Stormriders will be like. Rumor has it that the sequel will be done in the same style as "300" where the entire film was done on green/blue screen. It won't be filmed on a real location unlike the first where it was beautifully shot at several different places in China.

loved the first one. It's about time we had something like this. I enjoyed movies like the duel and chinese hero.

"A Man Called Hero"...hahaha...
i was rewatching that a while ago. started out nicely as a comic book movie but then, the end was such a mess. Like, what happened to Hero Hua's daughter?

I always wondered that myself. Maybe the creators thought of making a sequel. So they left the ending like that.

this movie has potential! Loved the first stormrider movie, and hopefully it's not all hype like the utter disaster of a movie The forbidden kingdom.

Now all they need to do is to make another "The Bride with White Hair" movie sequel and i'm happy!:cheesygri :D .....I know i'm a bit off topic here;)

This is a bit off topic but I always thought arron is short but looking at one of your photos showing him and Ekin standing side by side he looks as tall as Ekin.

Ekin with long hair.

I think Aaron is like 5'7", so Ekin is like 5'8" 5'9"... Aaron seems buff all the time, does he take steroids?

I wonder if this one will have more CGI than the first one?

But instead of 300 guys, it'll probably be just Ekin and Aaron mostly. Plus their budget is not as big.

err i think it's going to be a disappointment unless they have a really good plot which i dont think they do,but it's too early to tell.

Wow, this is great.. I still have the original vcd of Storm Riders one.

Wind and Cloud back to action..lol... Looks like Aaron really buffed up for this.

Taiwan had a Storm Riders TV series a few yrs ago.. but doesn't compare to the movie.. can't wait!

I'm guessing from the set pics that Wind will keep both eyes intact for the sequel. In the comics, Wind actually loses his left eye. Charlene Choi's character, Second Dream, is actually the mother of Wind's son.

This just in!

Kenny Ho Ka-King is now casted as Nameless (Mo Ming). This sequel now sounds like it's full of win! Sweet! I still wanna see that old ATV drama where he played Hero Hua.

Casting Kenny Ho Ka-King as Nameless already proves that this sequel is going to kick ass! Anyone seen him as Hero Hua in the ATV version of "A Man Called Hero"?

I dunno...the cast got alot bigger compared to the first.
I mean, casting Kenny Ho as Nameless is as awesome as casting Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime. Kenny Ho was pretty popular for some time cuz he played the role Hero Hua in the original ATV series adaptation of "A Man Called Hero" back in the late 80s (or early 90s). And it looks like Lam Suet is in the sequel too. Kinda ironic that they casted Chinese actors to play the Japanese villains this time cuz it was the complete opposite in the first (re: Sonny Chiba).

And the new actress playing Chor Chor looks alright. Will have to wait and see how she compares to Shu Qi.

oh really? then I can't wait, but I think they should've included some foreign actors/actresses to increase more attention to the movie though.

Yeah, they even got Sonny Chiba to play Conquer in the first movie...
Kinda hoped he reprise the role for the sequel cuz technically speaking, his character didn't die. (i just rewatched the movie on bluray recently.)

In the first movie, I assume his voice was dubbed? It didn't sound natural imo.

Of course, Sonny Chiba had to be dubbed. Guy only speaks English and Japanese. The international trailer of the first film itself shows that he actually performed this role in Japanese.

I've also noticed something, it's been 10 years(?) since the first one, Aaron and Ekin haven't aged a bit.

Tintin, you know if they had plastic surgery lol?

I wouldn't know if they had any surgery. haha...
But watching the original film in high definition, I realize Ekin Cheng had a zit that appears and disappears throughout the whole movie.

true, but dang, I wanna look that young when I'm 40.

True story though, I'm somehow related to Ekin Cheng. We have the same ancestry from the same village or something, well that's what my mom told me =/
