2 questions - does the sensor generally work better ontop of the tv or set in front of it? I've got a 52 inch screen and I put the bar in front of the set, and it's probably not as reactive as I would like. Any opinions?
Also, my family's really having fun with the golf game, any recommendations for a golf sim'ish game on the wii that's not too complicated in terms of menus and whatnot, but fairly realistic in recreating the sport with the remote?
Thanks, :cheesygri

I don't know about the position of the sensor with a 52 as of i don't have a tv that large. But if you really enjoy the wii you should get Super smash Bros Brawl. That game is really fun for a multiplayer game and in a few weeks Mario Kart Wii is coming out and that will be even better.

I put my sensor bar under my screen. I have a hard time controlling the wiimote when I put it above the screen. Oddly enough, when I borrowed my friend's wii before I got mine, his sensor worked perfectly above my screen.
Screen size isn't really an issue. I use my wii with a 96" screen. Just make sure that if you choose to put it above the screen, the wiimote is used at a lower height level and vice versa if you put the sensor below.

To be honest it's really fun insofar pretty much as it's getting the whole family into gaming - pop loves the golf game. Might pick up the first party offerings in a little while though, but only after they get a price drop.

I guess there's no real perfect solution then. I have it ontop of the TV, but as Sharp LCD's have a rounded top, it's a little bit of work getting it to snap on and stay there just right.

I've got a 50" and I had the sensor bar above the TV on a shelf for my centre speaker that was a few inches behind the TV and I was finding blind spots.
I moved it to directly below, but in front of the TV, at the end of the stand and it's been working great.
As for Golf games, I usually golf once a week during the season, and let me tell you, I have racked 40+ hours playing Tiger Woods 08, which I just got a month ago.
It's great.
The driving and irons are fairly realistic (can do a fade or draw), but you have to watch the screen for the arm position. It doesn't match 100% with where your backswing is. The same thing applies for chipping.
The downfall to the game is of course the putting. It's like a typical video game....estimate the speed for each line and assign a value to it and then add up the values to determine how many times you tap to the left or right to sink the putt.
I've been playing the Tiger Challenge (should be complete it by the weekend - total of 2 weeks with serious hours to get to where I am) and the PGA tour.
Enjoy and hope this helps.

this is a good thread - I just got my wii on Friday - I'd like to know how many saved games can be saved to the hard drive? And how large are the downloaded classic games? Just wondering if I should get an SD card.

Make sure you clear your room with anything breakable.
Make sure everyone wears a helmet when playing against each other and also especially if there are little kids running around. I've seen kids getting wacked by accident standing behind the players.

If you put it below the TV, put it at the tip/end of your TV stand, otherwise the wii pointer will be hard to control.

ya, my husband almost sent his laptop flying - it was sitting on the coffee table in front of where he was bowling - laptop was partially open - he swings to bowl, and WHACK - fortunately no damage done, and now he moves the coffee table completely out of the way :D

do you all use the two sided tape to hold it in place? right now I just have mine sitting there, unsecured - I didn't really want to attach the tape to my tv and/or stand...

I just leave the sensor bar on the sensor bar stand it came with. The sensor bar stand, I did not stick on the tv stand.

My sensor is lying loose. If It's on the TV stand, no need to secure it.
As for hitting things....my poor black lab has been the cause of a few under-powered golf shots as her snout got in the way of my swing.
I usually have to play with her a bit until she gets tired and moves away.

I have a 52" lcd tv as well and I double sided taped my sensor bar underneath my tv. I had choppiness from blind spots when I had it above.

Surprised no one mentioned this yet. You can calibrate the sensor bar in the main Wii menu. Might help a bit.
My screen is too big like Stock R's so I have to put it below it.

Thanks for the tip guys. I've spent my afternoon fiddling around with the setup. It does seem like the top of the tv is better for my sensor bar than the bottom, and the mild adhesive they use on the bottom of the bar seems to be more than enough to make it stick nice and snug to the top of the tv. I tried it out, and I'd have to tug a little to make it come loose, so as long as nobody's ripping at the thing, it should be fine where it is. :cheesygri
Miles of fun, I might add. But it's definitely true what they say: PS3 owners buy no games and lots of movies, Xbox owners buy nothing but games, and Wii owners just buy accessories. We still only have the one wii-mote that came in the box, but thus far it's working out fine since we don't really play the real-time competitive games much.

True that. To be honest, it was my dad who saw it at Costco, and as he's a bit of a techno-geek, we took one of the last two there to give it a whirl. It's not something I would have purchased, personally, as I am a pretty hardcore, graphics-***** HD gamer, but thus far it's succeeded in getting my parents into the groove of things, and they're about as far away from 'gamer' in the traditional sense as you can get. To me, to see them actually laughing it up with the thing is well worth the 300 bones, although I'm thinking we'll probably buy like maybe 3 games in the lifespan of the console.
I've got no interest in the console sellers like SSB and mariokart - not until they're $20, but my dad's already getting into the habit of going a round or two of golf and tennis every day, and bowling is just fun for everybody.
Love'n it!
Besides, everybody gets a kick out of it ever since I've made mii avatars for my whole family!

I'm looking into that Capcom golf game that hasn't come out yet. The name escapes me at the moment.
The mii avatars are a big hit at my house since they add that little bit of a personal touch to the game that makes the competitions a little more meaningful - I guess I'm hoping they'll make a cutsey mii avatar based golf game but with realistic courses and gameplay?

I can wish, right?
Also, another Q for the wii pros - does the yellow light on the power count as turning it off? Or is it the red light? Currently I can only make it go off to the yellow with the remote, and if I want the red light I have to physically go up to the console and hold down the power button. Is this right? Which one is actually 'off'? Stupid question, I know, but I can't find the answer in the manual (yellow = standby w/wiiconnect and red = standby w/out wiiconnect - wtf? Which button is off?)
