So I finally got a PS3 and I have a sony bravia 720p..
Some PS3 games offer both 1080i and 720P resolutions.
I hear 1080i sucks for fast images... so why should I play a game in 1080i?
Should I just stick with 720p when playing these games, even when the box says its possible to use 1080i?
Also blu ray is definitely a 1080i watch I hear, unless its sports?
Thanks for the help.. im so curious

well if your tv is 720p, use 720p. HDTV's work best when the input as at the tv's native resolution. If you're tv's maximum resolution is 720p, but it accept 1080i, it means it probably just downconverts it to 720p anyways.

My TV supports 1080p but when I load my PS3 games they all display at 720p according to my tv's 'Info' button. It also looks pretty good and I think all the games are imaged at 720p I read somewhere. So playing it at its original resolution is better. When I play Blu-Ray movies they are displayed at 1080p.

Most games are still rendering internally at 720p. Unless you have a ginormous 50+ inch TV, I suggest leave it at 720p.

It's subjective. I prefer certain titles darker than others, but overall my TV has a few presets like Game Mode and Movie Mode which come with nice calibration settings already.

As somoeone mentioned earlier, the TV's native resolution is 720p, so it doesn't display 1080i anyway but rather just accepts the signal.

I thought digital TVs (plasma, LCD, DLP) can never display i pictures anyway.

Depends on you, really.
Personally I really see a difference on a set with a higher contrast ratio, and I tend to bump my sharpness and backlight up almost to the max to play games and watch movies, but ymmv.

I have my PS3 on a samsung 40" LCD.
I tried 720P and 1080i. On the main menu of the PS3, 1080i image is very ugly, seem like running a computer crt on a 60Hz refresh rate.
Reason why I'm running on 720P.

The reason 1080i is ugly as your TV is not actually displaying 1080i.. it's downconverting it to 720p and apparently not doing a great job of that.
True 1080i is better than 720p IMO, but very few TV's left are actually 1080i.

I see, that would explain why on my Acer 37", 1080i is pretty nice. Thanks!

What HDTVs can display 1080i, aside from some very old CRT-HDTV models. Correct me if I'm wrong, but NONE of the 3 major digital panels (LCD, Plasma, DLP) can display interlaced pictures. Only CRTs can display interlaced video directly – other display technologies require some form of deinterlacing

Yes, just the CRT's are 1080i (to my knowledge, at least). When I said there aren't many left - I meant being used in homes for HD viewing. There are pretty much none left in stores to be purchased.
FWIW, I still prefer the picture of a good high end Hitachi/Mits 1080i CRT to most of the newer technologies, alas it's size & weight made it obsolete.

You need to change in the Display settings on the PS3 to only output 1080p, and all hames that say they support 1080p on the box, will go to 1080p instead of 720p.
Looks real nice on a 52" Sharp AQUOS 1080p 120Hz.

Yep, it's just CRT's. Any other TV is just converting to 720p or 1080p.

I've read about people finding VGA better but never tried myself. I can't even tell the difference on the 360 between component on my TV (I have an old 360) and HDMI on my friend's. They both look good at 1080p.

He was most likely inserting a game that did not support 1080p. To my knowledge the only game that supports it is one of the NBA games.. i think 08

p = progressive scanning, i = interlaced.
Check out the Wiki summary here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_scan).

Like it has been said before, you can not display interlaced resolution with your projector (3XLCD).The model you've listed has a native resolution of 1280 x 720, so everything higher will just get scaled back to 720.
