Being harmful to the environment and wasting gas, any other negatives to Idling for Long Period say like 10, 20+ minutes?

Only that it's illegal to idle for so long...

But something else to consider is if you have an exhaust leak under your car, it could easily seep into the passenger area (because there is no wind, cuz car's not moving).

The engine and transmission could overheat due to lack of airflow. Condensation could occur in the exhaust system as it is not getting hot enough and any moisture already in the exhaust system is not being "blown" out by higher rpms.

regardless of idling or not cars that runs on gas are bad for the enviroment due to carbon minoxide and other harmful gases coming from the exhaust.

You can argue that everything is really bad for the environment. I believe that there are people arguing that cows due to their "gas output" is bad for the environment as well.

All of the above.

Did I read that right? Ten or TWENTY minutes??? Why on earth would anyone idle a car for that long?

Only reasonable scenario I could think of is if someone was totally stuck behind a roadblock or colapsed bridge with on a 1-way highway in such extreme temperatures that the climate controls must be run. But even then, something like 6 minutes on, 10 minutes off would keep things comfortable while being easier on the car, the gas tank and the air.

not really, not only is the toxic gas bad for the enviroment, it is also bad for poeple. I don't understand what you're trying to say about the cow gas output. Are you trying to say that there's an argument of how cow farts are bad for the enviroment?

For some turbo engines, extensive idling leads to more oil consumption and lower compression.

That's right. According to a few studies, cows let off a lot of methane gas - greenhouse gases" - as part of their normal digestive process. There are people getting paid to measure cow farts and how to reduce their effects.

Excessive idling is bad for your engine, plain and simple. 5 mins+, especially when cold, is not good. The crankcase ventillation can't clear unburned HCs out fast enough and idling simply increases oil acidity and thus engine wear... Don't idle your engine, don't "warm up" you car, ever. Period.

The Anti-idling law is only in effect above a certain temperature.
