View Full Version : Are "Warnings" recorded on record?

Tonight around Kipling station, I apparently managed to drive through a stopsign coming around a bend - in my defense, I was lost, it was dark, and having gone back to look, the sign was behind like 6 feet of snow. Otherwise, I was driving the speed limit, blah blah blah. Anyways, I got pulled over and the cop told me he was going to ticket me, $500 and a handful of points, etc, but I explained my situation calmly and he said "Okay, fine, I'll let you off with a warning."
So does he now record that he had to give me a warning for running a sign? If for anyone reason I get pulled over again in the future, will they go "hey, I see you ran a stop sign in March of 2008..."?
Insight?

He did take my info back to the cruiser for a little while. What's the potential outcome of this?

He was checking to see if you had any priors and/or outstanding charges. He gave you a warning and let you go for whatever reasons. He did you a huge favour did saved you the penalties and blah blah blah.
No, there will be no record of this event. Your lucky day.

Actually if the cop gave you a written warning it will be on record that he stopped you for something but because for whatever reason he gave you a citation instead of a ticket. Other officers and judges can see this and if you try to BS you way out of another ticket they'll see you've been given enough chances and write you up.
Forgot to say your insurance will not see these warnings.

Nothing will come of this, you got lucky. The traffic stop is kept on record for 72 hours. Meaning if another officer were to run your plates, he/she would know you were pulled over in the last 72 hours, and possibly the reason behind it. Don't sweat it though, just be relieved that you were let off that easy.

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. I'm very appreciative that the cop was understanding (and told him as much) and next time I'm in that area, I'll know the sign's there.
Thanks again everyone!

Just goes to show ya, cops can be quite reasonable people.
