We went to the 10pm Chris Rock show at Massey Hall last night and the one thing that's left a sour taste in my mouth was the amount of people who paid $100 a ticket to see him showing up 30-45 minutes after the show was to start!!
Yes, the show started about 20 minutes late >:( , but how did the latecomers know this??
And why on earth did the ushers seat them!!??? It's not like we were at Yuk Yuks...we were in a theatre!
Rant over, resume your normal day :D

Were they Flip? Could be running on Philipino time. :cheesygri
Maybe they thought there was an opening act.

Filipino time is not 45 minutes late... it's 2 hours fashionably late...

I dont get it? ...did he show up late or did a bunch of people in the crowd show up late after Chris was already performing. Its pretty common for a performer to show up late...go to any Rock concert most dont come on stage till after midnight.

maybe it's a norm?
When I went to the Spice Girls concert, it didn't start until almost an hour after it was suppose to start. Maybe they want to make sure all the audience has arrived and seated? (Cause at the concert, half the place is still empty at the suppose start time, cause most people are outside fighting for spice girls t-shirts and stuff...people didn't really start filling in the seats until half past)

almost every concert in Toronto starts an hour late. I blame it on extra revenue from behind the stage pass

Isn't that something you would want at a Chris Rock show  hoping Chris calls them out because everybody knows he's one of the best at doing that.

For what its worth, I went to the Chris Rock show at the Fox Theatre in Detroit two weeks ago and the same thing happened. Seats only started to fill up after 10:15pm or so. Chris Rock was running late, too. He came on after a 30 minute 'intermission' following the warm-up comic.
I would have been upset at the really late start, but the tickets were cheap and the show was worth the wait.

I have to agree!!! lol I'm one of the only ones that make a concerted effort to arrive early. Breaking the stereotype!!!
I also saw a lot of this when attending the Raptors games. I'm always seated in the Sprite Zone like 30-45 minutes early, and I see these rich folks seated in the lower bowl and front couple of rows arriving in the 2nd quarter.
They don't see a good thing when they have it. I would do almost anything to get those kind of tickets. Actually, I'm just really appreciative that I have the opportunity to watch a live basketball, because I know that some cannot afford to watch a game...

you guys clearly dont go out to concerts or live shows much.
the show starts at a certain time after which it is an unspoken rule to give a grace period of 15 to 30 minutes, depending on who runs the show, for the audience to settle after which the show REALLY starts.
if its too late for you, you shouldn't have gone. Chris Rock wasnt late, he was there on time, the audience, was most likely not.

Where did I say that Chris was late?? The show was great...
It's rude patrons like that that make interrupt the show that make it unenjoyable. I know I have a lot of years on most of the members here, but when did it become the norm to spend money on tickets and be THAT late? It's plain an simply rude  I don't care what nationality you are, it's RUDE!
Oh...and my husband and I attend many comedy acts annually, we know the performer will be running late, still no excuse for you to be rude.
I hate to see what the generation after yours ends up doing.....likely buy tickets and not even bother to show :D

Try spending less time worrying about things you have no control over, a weight will be lifted off your shoulders.

The reality is that a high percentage of people who can afford to attend such events don't care. Just look at the bottom bowl of any NHL hockey game on TV; every one of those seats have been sold, but few will be occupied until at least the second period if they end up being used at all.

Those same people usually work past the regular 9-5 schedule so factor in getting dinner and finding parking for the event, it's not that they don't care.
As for hockey games, have you ever seen a homes Habs game TV, it's packed. I have access to seasons in the reds and I'm usually one of the late ones in my section.

As much as I dislike 3weddings, I agree with her on this issue
We were seated at about 9:55 and were fully aware that the show was going to start late. We were ok with that but we still wanted to be seated on time. Three different times we had to get up to let people pass to their seats (they were late by up to an hour). It really detracts from the show and OI can see it being very distracting to the performers.
Just get there on time and be considerate to others ... stop being a-holes and get there before the show starts
The show was amazing BTW ... worth every penny
