I'm in the market shopping for a car and ready to make a deal on the 2008 Impreza in the next couple weeks. However, just came across a huge paint/design complain on the following Subaru forum.

Anyone experiences the same thing??

Have you actually seen an Impreza in the showroom? They have some of the worst orange peel paint jobs I've seen.

Suscks about the rock chips.
Luckily my '08 Outback hasn't been affected (knock on wood). It has all the plastic cladding around the wheel wells though, and standard mudflaps.
Probably better in Alberta, it's All Gravel/Rock Chip ALL the Time here. Tons of cracked windshields here too.

Well, it's very personal whether or not if it's ugly.
but it looks like I will have to wait if we really want the Impreza.
UNTAKA, What is wrong with the windshield??
I phoned local dealership about this issue a week ago, and they didn't realize this issue so far, but they came up with a solution for me right away on the phone...so I bet they do know something!
We can't afford an Outback, but probably will take a look at the Legacy.

It looks good to me IMO, many compare lancer to impreza..and I think the lancer is ugly as sin, to each his own.
As for the windshields they are weak, and crack easily from a stone chip.etc
Replace with aftermarket when it needs to be replaced, aftermarket is much stronger.
The rock chips are a known issue with all the '08 models, subaru is known to have really thin paint as well so this doesn't help.
Best to have a 3M Bra solution to the front and to the rear wheel wells to help with the issue.

Sorry didnt want to hijack the thread
...if you can come up with the money...buy from the States...the Outback can be very affordable...esp the base model.
My limited model (pretty well equipped) is cheaper than what I paid for in 1997 for a 1.6 Acura EL
btw...I will be replace my windshield with an aftermarket one (non heated version). I dont really need it heated. (the Crack is now 2-3 feet long lol)

I guess I've been lucky with the windshield so far. *knocks on wood* I'll check my paint the next time I get a chance to wash it. But so far I don't see any problems.

^^ Windshield
Subaru is known for having lots of problems and ignoring them all!
I've asked a few mechanics and all of them told me to stay away from Subaru.
That being said, I personally like them I want to buy one in the future I just hope they fix alot of their problems and have better service.

It sounds like Subaru is very fragile, but they have top notch reliability?!?!

As for having problems and ignoring them..well not really it's not like they have recalls or anything. Thin paint and crappy windshields are not a huge problem.
Haha those mechanics you talked to must be ********, what did they say get a honduh?
Their service is actually quite good, just depends on the place you decide to go to, markham and budd's in oakville are both excellent for service, above and beyond expectations. Service for each manufacturer will differ per dealership/service department.

They aren't fragile, thin paint and weak windshields are about the only common flaws with Subaru.

Subaru is ranked #2 (I think Toyota came back to the 2nd this year, and of course Honda is #1) on Consumer Report in terms of reliability last year as far as I remember, and I thought that includes quality such as fit and finish.
We want a Subaru 'cause a few people I know have been driving them for so long, and have no mechanical or paint issues. And now I came across all these complaints and am wondering if I should even go test drive them.

You'll be losing out if you don't go test drive one, the '08's are the ones with more paint issues, look at 07 maybe? The windshield is not fragile as in one rock and it's destroyed, it has to be hit pretty good. But with a aftermarket windshield they can take much more abuse.

I did test drive the Impreza once, and we liked it a lot. That's why we were really ready to get one, but now we might have to start our searching all over.

i was planning on gettin a 08 subaru too back then until i saw the design of it i changed my mind. It was too late to the 07 one. What really bugged me the most was the tailights, it looked like a ford. I accepted the the front, it has grown on me.

We have a Legacy sedan and an Outback wagon. The Legacy, being 300 lbs lighter, is more responsive and over all is more fun to drive.
edit: both are US cars, just because something is cheaper down there it doesn't mean you need to get the best model.
Can you tell me what there windshield fix is?
