First off, let me say i am not doing this to get a cheaper insurence rate! i bought a Sunfire last week, cause gas is expensive and my mom doesnt like to drive our SUV anymore. When i bought the car i signed the bill of sale (private sale) and put my name on it. but the car is actually for my mother and she wants it in her name, but she is out of town now and cant go to the ministry. my question is, if i get the ownership in my name, get it emmission tested/ certified and plated. how can i tranfer it later to her name? what will it cost me. OR can I put the car in her name without her going to the ministry????

transfers between family members (and intermediates) are exempt from tax

You will need to go the MTO and fill out some paperwork. I did this 2 years ago with my ex. I don't recall whether or not we both had to go in but we did anyways and I think the fee was somewhere around $70. Fairly quick and simple process.
