So i was reading the Metro this evening (yes, this evening.. I can never get one in the mornings :S) and I read an article about the TTC union going on strike again? It continued on about how the union told its members to not settle for the 1st contract that the TTC offers, but to hold back and fight for more?

Does anyone know if this is true? Is the TTC union members going on strike yet again??

If this is the case, I honestly think that this is the main reason why the TTC has been always low on funds and therefore making its riders pay them through our own tax money and their yearly fare hikes. I think its unreasonable to request for more money and more benefits when I think their standard pay is already SO HIGH. A TTC bus driver has a higher salary than the average joe who works in corporate! Does anyone else see a problem with this?

their contract needs to be renewed, they usual rejected the first offer by the city and thats normal according to citytv news @ 6.

if they reject and go on strike later this month, I won't care, because I'll be done all my regular classes, and I will only have 4 exams to go to after.

2 are at night so I will have the car for sure, and 2 are during the day, so I will have to ask my dad for a ride. no biggie.

u know what i hope they do go on strike, and better yet make the TTC hike the price up another dollar, just to completely piss of riders and everyone buy a vehicle.

They shouldn't strike, they strike too much. If they abuse it the city will retaliate.

that would not be good lol. but yeah, the union is so greedy.

"We always rejected the first offer"

But what if the first offer is really good?

Their Union Head or some one very high up said on CFRB that they intend on rejecting; furthermore, it's proven by their track record that they will strike more often than not. What does that all mean for us riders? Bend over, sucker. They will likely go on strike for a week or three then we, collectively with the city cave in and give them that demand. Fair hikes, more huff and puff from riders then all this will return to normal again.

It's not practical for every one t get a car. Gas is prohibitively expensive and parking in the downtown area is just the same. What can you do? The government can't even run other facets of our municipality competently, I doubt the TTC affairs is even on the radar or that they acknowledge needs fixing. Sigh!
