I left my car in an unattended parking lot overnight near Adelaide and Peter St. I drove home in the morning and didn't noticed the damages until the following evening. In this case, should I go through insurance? If there is a chance of my insurance going up, I'd rather pay for the repairs myself.
Will I have to file a police report since it's a hit and run? The accident happened on monday morning.
I was hoping you guys can provide me with a rough estimates of the costs of repair before I shop around for prices.
Car is a 1998 Honda Civic Si

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Looks like a new bumper is in order and an inspection if there was any other damage underneath (chassis, rear suspension, rear frame). These days a bumper can range from $800 to $2000. Too bad you didn't get a license plate or anything. That's gotta suck.

I got some fool at First Markham Place hit my car and drive away. I have a dented door now because of this person. Some mofo's need to taken care of!

goodthing is that its a 98 civic and parts are aplenty for it. aftermarket for it can be had for prolly 200, paint job another 250-300. so cheapest is prolly around 500 or so if you get an after market bumper.

doesnt look like there's damage to the quarter panel and doesnt look like other stuff is damaged. and being an old car, i'm not sure if you'd even want to spend money on fixing any minor issues such as rebar and stuff if it needs to be fixed even.

I needed a bumper replacement on my Camry and the cost was $850-1000 depending on the location.

Absolutely report a hit & run to the police. In some cases, reporting within 24h gives you advantages with insurance.

Depends on your deductible

For a hit and run, I believe it is claimed under Comprehensive. You get 3 "free" comprehensive claims in 5 years. If you have comprehensive insurance, I would claim it.

Report to police if you are going to claim it with insurance. Your rate might go up the next time you renew.

But if you repair it your self or get a new or used bumper then don't bother.
What is the chance the police will catch that guy?
They rather go out and give people speeding tickets which is more productive than catching hit and run if they have no witness.

If it is an old car and you don't care then drive the way it is.

Thanks for the great advice everyone. Buying an aftermarket bumper sounds like a great idea.
If it is an old car and you don't care then drive the way it is.
If it was a fender bender, I would just overlook it. But the it's smashed, I can't hepl but feel like I'm driving around with a hole in the side of my car.

Does anyone know where I should be looking for an aftermarket bumper?

The number of freebies depends on the agency. In my case it's one, but I don't know if they reset the clock to zero at faults for the next year.
