Okay guys, I know this one is REALLY specific but this is just a small thread for a question for those in the neighbourhood or know the neighbourhood.

Going Eastbound on York Mills - Approx. 1300 York Mills Road
Into the bend that you can either make a left and continue going straight down York Mills (towards Victoria Park) or you can continue with the road down Parkwoods Village Drive (which will turn into Ellesmere)

Take a look at this picture:

A pedistrian crosswalk use to exist here (push the button, flashing lights - you can cross) but has now been replaced with traffic lights.
This is into the bend as what you see as the driveway on the right ...
For those continuing down York Mills (into Parkwoods Village Drive) there are markings in the road for you to stop and the crosswalk is located here.

For those continuing down York Mills and wanting to make a left which is located further up the street (further back from this) via a seperate left-hand turning lane, the new traffic lights can be seen from the turning lane (the traffic signals are in a bend and therefore, they've positioned them accordingly).

Some people stop at the lights. Others go through it.

You can obey it because its facing your direction. You can run it because there are no markings in the left lane to stop on the road (white stop lines), there are no signs that say "Obey Turn Signal" or something of the sorts AND MOST OF ALL, the pedestrians do not cross anywhere near here ... there are no people. It's a left hand turn from a road, onto a side road with no people or other cars.

So, for those that live in this area (or want to take on what I've shown), are there any opinions?

I've called traffic services and I've asked about it ... they're going to phone me back with some info a little later on today, but I wanted to see if anyone was familiar with the area first and could make a comment.

Personally, I would NOT obey the light because I do not think its for those making a left, even though the lights can be seen in the left-turn lane.
There are no markings, no people, no danger. I'll post up what traffic services tells me.

Update: Someone just called back. Apparently you do not need to stop at the lights to make your left as there is no stop lines indicating to do so.
And, the lights turn red on their own (which is only suppose to be pedestrian triggered) so they're going to look into that as well.

Good experience to report :D
Happy commuting North Yorkers / Scarboroughers
