Hi, every body,
I have got a traffic ticket for improper use of HOV lane along with 3 demerit points. I have got a quote from "Trafic Ticket Solutions" for 259 +Tax. Do you duys think I should go with them or shoud I fight by myself as per Alvito's advice?
Thankx

Fight it for sure!!!
It's not that hard if you can take some days off. It'll save you $259+tax (heck that's the cost of a Wii), plus a 50-75% reduction of your fine if you arrange a settlement on the trial date.

You're not going to win fighting it yourself. They're very strict on enforcement & convictions for misusing HOV. Will 3rd party representation do a better job? I don't know, I haven't heard of too many cases posted online. If you can afford someone to fight for you then go that route.

No defense, just plea no contest and get the fine reduced just before trial.

There's usually an admin fee & late charge tacked on. Unless the reduction is significant, OP's final bill is about the same and he misses a half day at his job.

If you don't have a legit defense for the guy at TTS then you won't need him to properly argue your defense. All he'll do is the paperwork that you can do yourself. As long as it's not a hassle to take the half day off to file papers (you can fax in disclosure requests but need a 1/2 day off to file the rights defense to the courthouse, though can fax that to the prosecutor and to the provincial / federal offices) and a half day for the trial then do it yourself. Oh the rights thing is for if your trial date is over a year after the offense date.
On the day of trial see if the officer is there (99% there), then when the prosecutor calls you up, they will offer you to plea. Actually, not 100% sure for an HOV violation. I believe that they have re-instated the First Attendants meeting. If so, you might just want to call them up and arrange one, to see what they will offer. That's another 1/2 day off but may be worth seeing your options.

Fight it to get it reduced.
And stay out out of the HOV, or car pool.

That's untrue. There's no late charge if you're not "late". Well if you only have a $60 fine, they can probably only reduce it to like $30. If it's that small, then just do the first attendants meeting and get it reduced and pay the $30 and don't bother with the other stuff unless the trial date is over a year later. Either way fighting it will probably get them to offer a 1-point deduction.

Ya, only car-poolers get to go 130 km/h in that lane.

What about those HOV lanes where they are on the right side of the street and you gotta make a right turn?

Thing is - I can get speeding since on some roads, you have to move at the flow of traffic.
I can get improper right/left turns since some people really don't know and it's hard to see signs sometimes. Ditto parking tickets.
Heck, I can even understand how people can rationalize running reds (it was yellow) or stop signs.
But really, how can anyone rationalize being in an HOV lane and not knowing you shouldn't be there?

For the reason you mentioned (What if I have to turn right) they are seldom enforced on streets like Eglinton and Don Mills. That was one of the big reasons the HOV lanes were positioned on the left side of the highway so there would be no reason to be in there for reasons other then car pooling.
Where they enforce the right lane is places you can't reasonably make a right turn, such as allen road just north of Shepard. They even do motorists the favor of putting a sign "Enforcement Area" and people still get busted. They are there pretty much every friday afternoon. Also busting speeders rushing southbound to the 401.

Improper use of the lane? If you were in the lane with less then the required number of people in the car, then you are WRONG.
Suck it up and pay for it. Waste our court system with guys like you who don't fess up to their mistakes.
No wonder we got so many pricks on the road, because guys like you tie up the legal system over things where you bloody well know you are in the wrong.

Gotcha ;) So what is the purpose of the HOV lane instead of making it another lane? Is this to promote car pooling?

NO. I used them before, they took my money and only got a slight reduction that I could have gotten myself. Either do it yourself or pick somone else.
