Just found that my Photoshop Elements 3 doesn't have raw support for the Nikon D40. I don't want to be buying new photo editing software every couple years, so what would be some good recommendations that have raw support for my camera? Preferably free or nearly free? I've never been much into messing with my pics, so I don't need anything too fancy.

Thought I'd add that I installed the included Nikon PictureProject and downloaded Nikon's ViewNX. PP crashes a lot. And for some reason, when I got to "update" both get to about a 1/4 of the way along then say "Could not communicate with the Nikon server. Please try again later". Been that way for days.

Picasa

Good. I installed that a couple days ago, I'll try it out.

I heard Capture NX was very good.

I heard Capture NX was very good.

At the Nikon site, they list it at $145. Bit too much.

Tried both Picasa and Faststone. Neither are very satisfying and their redeye tools are poor.
