I was thinking of buying one of these two, so if you have any experience driving them, your recommedations/suggestion is appreciated.
Some questions:
-what is the pro's/con's of each?
-which has the best resale value?

i think they are two very different vehicles
FJ screams nostalgia, has 2 doors + suicide doors vs. 4 doors of a Rav4.
i believe they either have the same v6 powerplant or are very similiar in power numbers.
the FJ has a very unique look to it, vs. the more mainstream Rav4, i would also assume the Rav4 is more refined vs. the FJ

Rav 4 is car based (unibody)
FJ is truck based (i think its body on frame)
The cars are very different. If you are using this mainly to move people and NOT go offroad then the Rav4 wins. I'd only get the FJ if I were using it for offroad fun.

You can`t compare the two SUVs .One is a true off road machine while the other a oversize station wagon .

The FJ has the 4.0 V6 while the RAV4 has a 2.4 4-cyl or a 3.5 V6. The FJ V6 has less power but more torque than the RAV V6, the 4-cyl RAV is obviously less powerful but better on fuel. The FJ is a BOF truck while the RAV4 is car based. The FJ will tow more and be much better off road. The RAV4 has more space and is probably smoother/quieter/more carlike. The choice seems to come down to whether you need an SUV to do SUV stuff, or whether you want a big car with all wheel drive.

The FJ got pretty low rating according to Consumer Reports (only one other import car on its list of worst 11)
Just read about it today:

RAV4 V6 4WD vs FJ V6 4x4
21/28mpg vs 16/20mpg
269hp vs 239hp
246lb-ft vs 278lb-ft
FWD bias vs RWD bias
avail. 3500lbs vs 5000lbs towing
IRS vs Live Rear
Highway Warrior vs Offroad warrior -> Depends on what you want it for..
The V6 RAV is really fast, for what it is. The 4WD on the RAV4 is automatic, you can only lock 4WD mode if you're under 25mph, after that, the system kicks it back to FWD mode and only engages the rear wheels if it senses slip.
Suicide doors? Please educate.
Are you seriously that much of a noob that you can't google it yourself?

great feedback guys, thanks.
I don't imagine going off road that much, which will make a Rav4 a better choice.
I'm probably going to test drive both though=)

Consumer Reports did not rate these 11 vehicles as 'the worst' available, CNN picked a list out of context in order to create a sensationlist headline.
Consumer reports rated the vehicles the lowest based on specific criteria (basically how good of a family car they would be).
They gave purpose built trail rated vehicles (Jeep Wrangler, Hummer H3, Toyota FJ) bad ratings because they are meant to haul around a family.
They gave the Toyota Yaris and Chevrolet Aveo bad ratings because they are economy cars and don't offer the ammenities of a $100,000 Lexus.
Reliability, Price and many other factors were not taken into account with the ratings and this 'worst of list' from CNN should be disregarded.

I like the looks of the FJ, but found the interior to be very claustrophobic. The roof line is low and the side and rear windows are small. The visibility is pretty poor and it feels like you're always driving through a tunnel.
