Umm....I don't really think the public has access to that kind of stuff. I mean, if some SOB cut me off in traffic, all I'd have to do is write down the plate, go home and look it up, and then I have his name and address so I can go over and beat him?

I think our privacy laws are better than that.

I don't believe you can search a plate on your own, if you have the vehicle VIN for $20 you can get the used vehicle info package.

Actually you can.

I went to get a UVIP from a service ontario kiosk the other day. You can put in VIN or license plate number. Then you can get the UVIP which lists out all the info for the vehicle. It'll cost you $21 + tax though.

Yes, but I believe this is misuse of information and is criminal offense.

Not really. I have a friend who works in vehicle licensing for a large courier company. Because he deals with the MTO so frequently over all kinds of matters on fleet vehicles, he can do checks on license plates pretty much anytime he wants. MTO workers are "too busy" to enforce privacy guidelines. And no, I wont ask him to run any plates for anyone here. :)

On the other hand, I once was buying a motorcycle I was uncertain of, years ago (before Carfax)....So I took the VIN # in to a police station with the hopes, that they would run a quick check on its status (stolen, etc)...The lazy cop refused, stating the example you cited above, even though I stressed I did not want to know any personal info, as I already had that, just if it was stolen...yes or no? The cop still refused.
So I drove to another police station and the cop there basically told me anything I would have wanted to know about it, lol.

Long story short, no system is perfect.

Yeah, that raised an issue with me too, I would've thought they would've needed to verify some info before giving you the UVIP, but apparently all you need is money, a license plate number or a VIN.

There was one person that was following me and my family like crazy. I jotted down her license plate number, the kiosk thing might be handy.

So...instead of calling the police and keeping your family safe, you're going to spend $21+tax and do what, call them and say, "Stop following me?"

Nevermind that, what about putting yourself at risk? I mean if someone "followed you like crazy", what would happen if you went and confronted them? You think if they are crazy enough to follow you they aren't crazy enough to beat you down when you get to their house? LOL. And if you should go on their property, rest assured they have more of a right to beat you down than you do to go over there because you claim they "followed you like crazy" :lol:

Of course if the info is to just give their house a good egging, than that's another story heehee. But then egging them, what message does that send to your family (i.e. your kids)?
