well, thank you CBC exec noobs for taking a fine canadian show off the air.

canada never had many great shows recently so why take this one down? they moved it from tues to fri, and only started to promote it recently and then cancel it due to bad ratings. who's fault was that?

too bad cuz the show really started to pick up. i can only hope they finish it cleanly but i would've loved to see more. had quite a season 2 potential.

Thats dissapointing, I quite liked jPod, one of the very things I watched on CBC. Any chance another network (CTV or Global) would pick it up?

It's not over yet! Email them and tell them it was a good show, why you liked it, and why they should bring it back.

umm .. what's jpod?

cliff
Mar 8th, 2008, 10:15 PM
that's too bad, it was the only show I regularly watched that is/was broadcast on traditional airwaves.

If alliance-atlantis was still independent then there would be a chance of it being picked up for showcase, but now that canwest owns them the odds of them producing new Canadian programming is equal to zero.

just saw a TTC train full of Jpod ad's this week.
Never watched the show but its pretty stupid to put so much marketing into the show and cancel it before pulling the marketing.

You expected rocket science from the CBC?
It's just more of our tax dollars gone down the drain.

as long as the border is on ... I am happy ... jpod seems pretty stupid .. CBC gets 1 hit each year ... last year Dragons Den - this Year The Border ...

Marketplace and the 5th Estate ... everything else can burn in hell ... oh ESPN or NBC sport's for Hockey... LEAFS SUCK!

If you want CanCon, go watch Robson Arms (http://www.robsonarms.com) on CTV (although s3 hasn't started yet)! It's "hihihi hahaha" funny :D.

Aww man! I loved this show, especially the book.

Though I have to admit watching a show on CBC felt dirty to me, lol

Wow I can't believe they're cancelling it. First CBC series I've watched every episode of. Hell, it's the only time I watch CBC programming besides the Olympics.

The show gets a decent amount of downloads on torrents too...

If they cancel anything, they should cancel The Border. Leave the big budget productions to US networks, please.

i really tried to like this show, having enjoyed most of the authors books, but couldn't get into it. really bad acting and really predictable lines and situations. felt pretty forced for the most part, and definately felt canadian...

Dear Friends,

Hi all, Raugi Yu here. I play Kam Fong on jPod. Okay so you have heard that jPod has not been picked up for a second season by CBC. I got the call a couple of days about it.

At first I was upset and disappointed and immediately thought of the great times and experiences I had shooting jPod and how much I would take from that…There was one problem though…I kept wondering why. Why not have a season 2? I started to hear what others were saying. I heard anger, resentment and frustration. So many of you my friends along with thousands, yes thousands, of strangers have expressed outrage over the cancellation of jPod.

I got angry too.

One may think that, “Sure, I’d be angry too if I lost a steady gig like that”. Well that’s not what I’m angry about. Gigs come and go. It is no huge hardship for me to go back to auditioning and booking and living my life as an actor. It is my passion. No. It angers me that the CBC our nation’s television station (yes I know among other things) chooses to cancel a show that is so cutting edge, fun, smart and CANADIAN. So many viewers have gleaned joy from watching jPod week after week. We look forward to it; I dare say we yearn for it.

I’d like to go down swinging. Many of you, who know me well, know that I am quite a loner and I don’t ask for help often even when I need it. I guess I‘m asking now.

I’m a pretty chilled out go with the flow kind of guy, but I recognize that there are times in my life when I’ve got to fight. In surveying the land I recognize that I need a lot of help.

If you feel you can, please call CBC at: 1-866-306-4636, choose option 1 for English programming and choose option 1 again for the “Attendant” then ask for “Audience Services”. Audience Services will answer and at that point tell them how you feel about jPod being cancelled and how you would like to see a season 2.

OR
E-mail them at http://www.cbc.ca/contact/

I alone can reach out to all of you and if all of you can reach even 2 people and we get that people ball rolling…we could possibly be jamming up some phone lines at CBC. Am I being naïve and hopeful? I hope so; it feels better than lying down and taking it.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all of you for watching the show and for all the great things you’ve all been saying about it.

Longevity and persistence is the key. Phone or e-mail, if you can do it everyday.

I send my love to you all and just to be clear, that love stays whether you phone, e-mail, write or not.

Thank you all!
Raugi Yu

I've been watching the Border. I tried these new CBC shows also, JPod, Sophia and MVP. I only liked the Border. I also saw ads for ALL these shows on CBC. During the Border and Little Mosque all the other shows were promoted.

For anyone interested, there seem to be two petitions going on to try to save the show:

http://www.savejpod.ca
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/CBC_jpod

As the OP said, the show started kind of slow but has definitely become more interesting the past few weeks. The time slot is horrible, but at least they put all the previous episodes up online for streaming (www.cbc.ca/jpod).

I think they're still going to air all the remaining episodes -- that's something I guess. Which reminds me, it's on tonight... :)

I love jPod! A nice 'sequel' to Microserfs. I'm a little bummed it's being canceled.

Yes because promotional ads are done at the drop of a hat, and never ever planned out in advance.

I think they could have handled the promotion a bit better, though. Before the show began airing I remember seeing quite a few commercials for it, but after it started, the ads pretty well stopped. Also, I'm surprised they didn't leverage the website more to promote the show and vice versa. They did all this work making stuff like character blogs and even created a fake Neotronic Arts website with a side story about another "pod" at the company (xPod), with videos and flash games, but they never even promoted it during the show. There's even a contest going on there right now, and they haven't made a single mention about it during the broadcasts.

Wow, did anyone notice that one of the actors actually posted on the first page of this thread?

I don't usually support Canadian programming, mainly because there isn't alot of good shows aside from Dragon's Den and Dragon Boys, but jPod is pretty good! Good enough to yield an e-mail IMO.

Listen to Kam Fong, or he'll send you to China and get you hooked on smack.

The show actually makes a nerdy environment a good setting for a comedy that appeals to the masses.

this show has to stay alive, it's an exact replica of nearly every workplace I go to. they have the computer industry completely down.

there are a lot of people who work with computers now and I can see many fighting to keep the show on. wtf is the border? if I wanted a show about "The Border" I'd see a few guards sleeping and a few other racist ones pulling aside teenagers and hassling them with guns, not a glamourized TV show.

What was up with them not showing the correct episode last night? They skipped over #11 and went directly to #12 instead. I'm wondering if the CBC did it on purpose just to see how many people will make the effort to go to their website to watch the missing episode online.

If you're a fan of the show, don't miss #11. I still can't get over the politically incorrect line from Cowboy about "dropping Rudy Huxtable off at the pool." That + 80s retro music + cheesy prom outfits = a good episode.

im sorry but i dont understand that line, can u explain it?

and there was a miscue in scheduling because the week before they didnt air the episode, but i'm assuming they thought they did, so thats why 12 came this week.

VERY stupid on their part. It shows they dont care anymore.

Yeah I agree, and that's probably why not too many people tuned it. The production values of this program were piss-poor, and while the show was OK, it really wasn't designed for a mainstream audience.

And in case you guys were not aware, jPod has averaged a lowly #9 (out of 12) in the demo amongst all of CBC's weekday prime-time programs (which is WORSE than repeats of "Just for Laughs"), and only had a 300k viewer average in the 2+ category. To top things off, last Friday the show only had 232k viewers in TOTAL (despite the fact that it's lead in had over 700k 2+ viewers). If this doesn't have LOSER written all over it, I don't know what does.
