Looks like bhphoto doesn't stock any 18-70mm kits anymore, could this possibly mean that they're about to release the upgrade in a month's time? I want your insights.

The Nikon 16-85mm F3.5-5.6 VR is coming out soon. It's priced more than the current 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 VR currently out.

The lens is already available for sale here in Canada, and no it's NOT more expensive than the 18-200, but it''s only about $30 less.

LOL, im not talking about the lens, i mean the d80 with the 18-70mm lens outfit as a whole.

do you mean "upgrade" as in a new body with 18-70 lens? or the D80 with a new kit lens (other than 18-55 VR)? or.... something else?

looks like even merkle doesnt have d80s with 18-70mms anymore.

I've sold cameras for 12 years in a previous life and I can tell you that:

* camera manufacturers aren't that smart to stop selling a model prior to the introduction of it's replacement. Retailers are never told prior to the official announcement. Why? What would the manufacturer do with all of those discontinued cameras? Better to let the retailer deal with it.

* PMA just finished. It would be dumb for a manufacturer to introduce a new camera so quickly after PMA. It's better for them to pre-announce something at PMA than to announce it afterwards. In one or two months maybe.

While it's possible for a D80 upgrade it's not likely. What Nikon may do is to replace the kit with another kit.
