Actually I find it's more Asian females who are into photography...all my female friends have cameras while most of my Asian male friends don't really bother with pictures.

Your perspective is probably partly due to the ridiculous amount of Asian people around (assuming you're from Toronto or Vancouver).

hes talking about professional photographers, not the asian girls who take pics in the washrooms of the places they visit.

I agree. the Op is just going to all the wrong events. anything held in pacific mall... anything to do with import cars, or asian cinema.

I agree with OP. At the Auto Show there were flocks of Asians with Canon's and Nikon's taking pics of cars. In fact they were actually getting in the way of people and were pretty irritating. I under stand people have a passion for it, but there is no need to be pushy about it.

i wouldn't say ALL Asian guys are into Phtography..........I know I am not.......

But I think it would be a great conversation starter with hawwwwtttt girls...........

like what Peter Parker did with Mary Jane in Spiderman 1..........."I need some pics for the school paper, would you mind showing some cleavage for the pics?"

If you wanted to keep this discussion clean of racial stereotyping then what does your title mean when all asian males into photography.

You obviously can't name this thread the way you did and expect people not to use race in their argument. You are stereotyping Asians right from the get go by saying ALL Asians are into photography. I suggest you re-phrase your statement.

i'm asian and i'm a photographer, no one of my asian friends at school are though... however i do know a few asian photographers lol

I think its because it allows you to tinker and experiment and I think most asian guys are into that. Car customizing, computers, gadgets..etc.

I see so many of these stereotype thread in RD... and now the photography forum...

Does it matter if Asian buy up all those dSLR? Is not like we have a dSLR shortage~ I see many Caucasian with this and that too... do you want to start a thread on statics that won't make any change for the good? If not, we should close this thread period!

I'd say with the agressive pricing these days, majority of the people are not photographer, whether you are black, white, yellow, orange or purple. They are just a bunch of GWC's :D

I don't see anything wrong with Asian guys being into photography, the question is why its so popular amongst them... there is no stereotype here because photography is not something negative.

I have a feeling it has something to do with culture. This has to do with what's around us and what influence us the most. Just like there are probably more Chinese playing ping pong (table tennis), more Malaysian playing batminton, more Canadians playing hockey, more american playing basketball .. Unfortunately, I can't say that I have figures to support my assumption here. I grew up with my father having 2 SLRs and I spent my earning from my first summer job into my first SLR when I was 16. I have been shooting for the last 15+ years ever since. I have a feeling my son will be as into photography as I am.

My other observation/hunch tells me that western society are much more into sports and other outdoor / outgoing hobbies/activities in their teenage years. I would guess asians are probably just into photography in an earlier stage of their life in comparison. Another poster is probably right regarding what type of event you go to as well. I am very into nature photography and I am definitely not seeing enough asian photographers in the field.

Whenever I go to shoot an event in Toronto, there are 10 Asian guys with cameras for one photographer of a different race. I have thought about this and I could never find an answer.

Well 1/4 of the world's population is Asian, and I am sure that 1/4 of the population of this site is Asian as well, so I can see why you may think that. More people of one racial denomination would result in a disproportionate number of people at gatherings. It also depends where you go. If it is at a Asian event, its logical to have more Asians then non Asians.

Personally, I don't think there is one "type" who likes photography. It is an art, which is beyond the boundaries of race.

One thing I have noticed, is that Asians are very much into technology and gadgets. All my Asian friends want to be one up on Cell Phones, Watches, Cameras, and other items of prestige and technology. I know other nationalities are into these as well, but not to the same degree.

you asked a weird question, i have a colleague here, basically carry his pentax wherever he goes, each time i saw him, either on board a subway, out for lunch, back home after work, he hold his pentax, and he is not asian, :cheesygri ,
