At 50x, wouldn't it be impossible to use them without a tripod or some sort of support?

The first review said it was more like 8 times
AND
he would have got a better model if he knew that fact.

Yeah, the "50*" is likely the field of view. (Actually, the 383ft/1000yds is the field of view, but who expects a perfect Chinese to English translation here?)

The 30 is the size of the lens.

DCF is the type of reflector it uses.

I've never seen this style with better than 9X magnification, so it's likely 8X or 9X. (Then again, I've never seen a lens size of 30 - they are usually 21 or 25 in these smaller binoculars.)

The real mystery is what "night working" means!

What does DCF stand for? (http://www.pentax-binoculars.co.uk/acatalog/FAQ_s.html#4)

if 50 degrees is the field of view, then magnification M should be
2*tan-1(M*tan[tan-1(383/3000)/2])=50
giving M ~ 7.335x

with a objective lens of 30mm and 7.335x, exit pupil is 4mm, hardly worthy of decent night use

I am looking for a decent deal on a night vision bi or monocular if anyone has seen any.
