I'm looking at changing away from 3web for my internet provider.
I need:
- ability to run server and p2p traffic without throtteling
- no capping
- GOOD customer service (I guess anyone is better then 3web)

Throw some recommendations my way.
I should mention I'm in Toronto.

The reason I've not considered dsl is because the phone line wiring is messed up in my house and we don't have a land line.
So I went with cable to same me on the hassle of having to get the phone line wiring fixed in my house.

That sucks that the only choice I have for cable is either horrible customer service, or being throttled/capped...

What if you sign up with Bell Sympatico, get them to fix the wiring (if it is possible), cancel your 3 month promotion, and then sign up with TekSavvy DSL. May work?

I have to admit, I didn't hear about Teksavvy till just a few days ago, and to think I have been paying extreme to rogers for about three years now. Boo.

Bell wont fix anything in your house without charging you extra for each problem. They dont even come to install the internet they just send you the package with the modem.

I had rogers for 5 years and never had any problems with them. Im getting great speeds and no download cap.

My connection has been great with 3web for the past 1.5 years, but just recently it started getting flaky. Very intermittent service. Dealing with the customer support is about as pleasant as banging my head against a board full of spikes and nails.

If this continues for much longer I may just sign up with rogers, get them to fix the problem, then sign back with 3web.
That or just go DSL and deal with the wiring issue when I cross that bridge.

How do you know you have line problems? Have you tried DSL before?

Also you could always do what I did. Run a direct Cat6 (you can use regular cat3 or 5e but for the price I just went cat6) cable from the grey bell box outside to my office where my DSL modem is.

I bypassed all internal wires and now got a better connection for dsl.

Did bell hook up the cat6 outside at the grey box for free?
Or did they charge you for that?

On another note, can I get DSL, even if I don't have an active bell ground line?

I did it myself, ran Cat6 to a new phone jack beside my dsl modem. Bell wanted $100 to do what I did for $30 or so.

I'm with teksavvy by the way. You can get dsl even if you dont have a home phone line with bell BUT you must order a Dry-Loop which would be a little more expensive depending on your area. You would have to call teksavvy and get a price for your area.

How did you get into the grey bell box outside your house to hook up the cat6 cable?
I thought that box was tamper proof.

Tamper proof, hah not even close lol

I even asked a bell guy to make sure I was doing it correct and he told me exactly how to do it (I think because he did not want to) but thats ok cause I did it my way used better cable.

Check out this topic I made you will see i have pictures there.
