Hey Folks,

Just a quick question. I know XP is picky about hardware changes. I was wondering if anyone knows, or has had experience with, going from a intel core 2 duo to another (6600 to 6850) and whether it required a winxp reinstall?

A quick secondary question, about something I have little to no experience with, would a drive backup with Paragon, for example, allow me to clone back my drive after despite there being a new chip? As sort of a workaround...

Any help is appreciated!

You shouldn't need a reinstall, however you should keep note of your BIOS settings (should you have to reset it after installing the new CPU), and when you reassemble your computer, make sure everything is plugged into the same ports/connectors/slots as they were before the CPU swap.

Windows is really only picky about changes of branding, which leads to changing drivers.

I went from an Asrock s939/Opteron/ATI X800 to a Gigabyte/C2D/8800GT and did not need to reinstall.

I think it is just a crap shoot. I really thought I would have to reinstall. I changed all 3 major brands/drivers without a hitch.
