Hi,

Just wonder what temps. everyone one it getting from their Q6600.

I am receiving CPU temps of 50-55 degrees celsius.

I have a front fan installed, a Zerotherm HSF and rear fan is on max on my Sonata 3 case.

Are my temps high?

Specs:
Q6600 @ 2.4
Galaxy 8800 GT
2 Gig OCZ REV.2 Tit DDR2
500 Gig WD Sata HD.

If you load temps are 55c thats just fine, if those are idle temps then you might have a problem.

Here is my idle temps at work:

Those are my idle temps when I am just surfing the net.

Core Temps readings:

Core#0: 51
Core#1 48
Core#2 55
Core #3 50

I applied the right amount of Artic silver on ( size of a rice grain).

I don't know why my temps are so high.

That might not be enough paste ... "size of a rice grain" .. you need to spread it around with a credit card (or other card if you wish), so that you have a nice thin layer. If you just left that little bit in the middle of the chip and put the HS on it you might not be getting proper coverage.

Also which Zerotherm HS do you have ?

See the Zalman install flash video (only the spreading of the paste is relevant ...) Link (http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=277)

I have the Zerotherm CF900 HSF.
Let me try to reapply the paste as per your instructions and see how the temps are.

Zerotherm CF900 I think that explains your high temps overall. I went and checked some reviews, that HS was just ok way back in 2006 when Pentium Ds were the 'in thing'. I'd say its time to upgrade your heatsink to something that is made to handle the heat of a quad core cpu. I would start with the Scythe NINJA PLUS Rev.B ($35 ish) or if you're interested in oc'ing then the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme ($50 + fan) is probably the best out there.

How is the fan on the heatsink hooked up? Is it plugged in using the 4-pin motherboard fan header? Or is it hooked up directly to a molex connector? And is it the fan on low/high setting?

Looking at the Frostytech review of that heatsink, your temperatures are in the right range if it's on low.

And what is your room's temperature? Is your case inside of a shelf or cabinet? Or is it freestanding without anything that can impede the air intake or output vents?

thats fine, as long as you are staying under 75 at full load.... it is a non issue ;)
heh, even then....

all i have running is a virus scan, im averaging 49... with a mild overclock

OK I just reapplied the paste, now my readings are:

C#0:47
C#1:46
C#2:50
C#3:44

Darn, I just got this HSF too. I even asked the TigerDirect CSR if this one a good one...

I guess I need to upgrade again..

The fan is connected to a 4 pin motherboard fan header.
Fan setting is auto, speed is based on the thermal reading from the fins of the HSF.
My case is under my table, the back of the computer faces a wall but there is about 2 ft space from wall and computer.

More importantly, what's the temperature on full load?

Just for testing sake, try checking in your motherboard's BIOS to see if you can change the fan speed there. It might be using words like "performance" profile/speed, etc.

Is there a program I can use to make the computer run at full load?

OCCT set to focus on the CPU:

It'll test all 4 cores.

There's the problem ... tiger will sell you anything no matter how crappy or old it is! Man I hate that place so much.

Yeah I think you need a new cooler. I'm using the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme.

man, that is normal for stock temps and stock cooler.... hell, it can run at 65-80 and still last 20 years.....
your temps are fine, but if you want to spend $100 you can lower them.... but there is no reason...

That's perfectly fine, you don't need a new heatsink or anything unless you overclock, want silence, or want lower temps (but the temps you have are perfectly fine).

I think it all depends on the place of your tower. I had it facing a wall and right back so the air flow wasn't great and my temps with a thermalright Ultra 120 and overclocked to 3.1ghz was around 45c idle

Now I moved my computer and it's not next to a wall and my temps are 35c idle

My idle temps are in the low 30s and high 50s at Ortho. However, I set my fan to 80% full when it reaches a temp threshold.

Q6600 G0 at 3.0
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro LGA775

I'm sure I can do the same with the stock heatsink and fan combo as well.
