Hey guys, I'm running a simple home network using workgroup configurations built into Windows. Setting it up my Epson RX595 for printing was easy, but how do I scan over the network? Also, I noticed that my networked system does not have a status window that pops up when I'm printing with the printer, those are always nice... I have the same printer installed on a Windows XP-based computer that's upstairs and it works fine with the status monitor and task bar icon...

So yeah...
How do I scan over the network and how do I get a status window on Vista?

I'm assuming the method your networking is to use a Windows machine to share the printer but only a printer with built-in networking can do the functions you want. Excluding the host machine of course because it has a direct connection.

Windows doesn't have built-in support for scanning over the network, so you have 2 choices:

1. Software utility provided by the scanner manufacturer (don't know about Epson, but my Samsung all-in-one has a network scanning utility)

2. Log in to the machine with the local scanner connection using Windows remote desktop or VNC and run the scan remotely, storing the image file in a shared network directory (which is what I actually do since the Samsung utility is a pain to use)
