New question:
My dad claimed the property tax last year and the proof they wanted from us was so outrageous.
They wanted a banked stamped invoice or the statement from the mortgage. But our property tax is not linked to mortgage and the bill was paid online. When we then asked the Municipal gov't for a receipt, they can only send one at the end of the year. But this isn't even a receipt, it says at the bottom of the letter something about this cannot be used for CRA purposes or is not receipt. Why can't the CRA just pull up our file from the Municipal gov't?
I want to claim the credits this year but how the hell can I prove it to these guys?

The property is on my dad's and bro's name, but I paid for the taxes in 2007. Am I allowed to obtain the credit by claiming the amount on MY tax form? I have payment proofs from my bank. I was thinking of putting an amount for the rent paid, but then either my dad's or bro's income would be raised. Is there any other way then one of them claiming the credit themselves? Thanks.
nope nope ;)

OT: in future i recommend you say WHERE the property is when you ask for financial advice. Laws vary from place to place!

You must have got a property tax bill from the municipality because you paid the bill. That would be proof.

his name is not on the property tax bill, if it was and he paid for the whole bill, then sure go ahead and claim the whole amount
otherwise people in a home with the lowest income would claim the property tax and get the most back...
if OP wanted to claim rent instead that could work providing the rent was low enough to offset the expenses and % of the home rented out to him to negate the rental income that will be reported on either his dad/brothers name....its got a mortgage so thats a pretty good way to offset the rental income profit but then again they can split the rental income since both their names (dad/bro) are on the property

So my dad won't even receive that bill because I paid it? They actually check the source of the payment? How does that work?
If that's the case, are we all screwed for this credit?
I don't get this,

How can people who's name is not on the property claim the credit, this was my initial question, which all the posts above say I cannot.

Because they are different government. Even if they are in the same government, one department cannot just pull up a record from another department.
