hey folks,
I recently burnt my mobo because the fan died and i didn't realize it. The chip isn't dead because i tried another one and the mobo didn't respond, so mobo went.
It was a Socket A with SATA input.
I dont plan to upgrade right now, because i will have to upgrade pretty much everything. I tried eBay and craigslist, but no luck of finding a relatively cheap socket A mobo with Sata connectors.
Anyone has an idea where to find one?
Thanks!!

I would just buy a cheap CPU + board together as it will probably save you a lot of trouble in finding a socket A board nowadays.

You could settle for a Socket A mobo without SATA and the use a PCI SATA Controller card...
But honestly you'll end up spending like $75-100 for a Socket A mobo due to rareness. And a simple SATA PCI card will run you another $50 or more.
You should seriously consider upgrading your PC.
Go on DirectCanada and pick up some new components. You can re-use your case, PSU, optical drives, etc.
Get an Athlon64 X2 4200 AM2 dual-core 2.2GHz CPU. It's a Brisbane core on the 65nm process which runs nice and cool for $69.
Then get a Biostar TF7050-M2 mobo. It's an AM2 mobo complete with integrated 7.1 audio, onboard graphics, PCI-E slot, SATA and RAID. Just for $71.
Then just pick up any DDR2-800 2x1GB memory kit for around $50. OCZ and Mushkin have a few models in this price range.
Your total would be around $200 - just $50 more than fixing your current setup. Trust me, my way will get you a machine that will DESTROY whatever you have in terms of performance.

You could get into this CPU/MB combo for $60 and keep what you have now (memory, optical/hard drives, agp video card)

Yeah, I am trying not to buy anything other than the motherboard because everythign else currently works. I am cheap, and I know I don't need any more horses for what I do. =)
Thanks for the link, I will look into that, goofball.

Yes, I could spend $200 for a destroyer. Or $60 max to keep what I got with a mobo with SATA. I do realize buying a SATA on PCI card would ruin my plans to stay cheap. Thanks though.
