i need help i cant choose !!!
Canon PowerShot S5 IS vs Canon PowerShot 8.0MP Digital Camera SD870 IS
these two are the logical choice to me .. the S5 has nice video option and looks a little bit more professional but the 870 is slim has a nice big LCD with almost the options has the S5 but obviously because of the size it doesn't.
thx for any replies

Kinda hard to give advice since they are for 2 different types of users.
What is appealing to you on either of these cameras?
and what would cause you to not use one or the other?
Looks pro...does that really make a difference?

i guess the thing that would make me not use one, would be its operation at low-light moments , and general picture quality . The long zooms arent as important imagine quality and easy of use.
I never owned top quality cameras , therefore i am abit scared to miss out on options with the 870 do to its small size.

What options would those be?
neither camera are ideal for low light operation on moving subjects.

To be honest, there isn't many options in the P&S arena that will do this with good high iso quality.
You could look around for a used Fuji F30/F31fd/F40fd or new F50fd. They are actually usable at ISO 1600 (imo).
Image stabilization is good for static objects. Doesn't do much of anything for moving objects as the shutter speed is too slow and IS doesn't make it faster.
Unless you're going to freeze movement with flash, you will want a camera that has good high ISO performance. Unfortunately, you're pretty much asking for a DSLR for that unless you are ok with the P&S quality at high ISO (which I find is unacceptable).

The best flashes are the one you get off the camera or high above the lens. None of the fuji's i mentioned have a hotshoe for this. You need one of those prosumer P&S for this but I don't know if you want to go that route or not?
No EVF on those fuji's either. All composition is done via LCD. They all have 2.5" but the F20 has a lower resolution than the other's.

Recently I just bought Canon S5 IS (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-S5-Digital-Stabilized/dp/B000Q3043Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1249966425&sr=8-1) to upgrade my old Kodak for only $312
I've used the camera for a couple days now and taken about 400 shots with it. It is pretty good, although I want to share my thoughts on a couple things that other reviews have brought up.

It's also a great camera for taking indoor portraits with flash, as well as outdoor photos.

I have the SD870IS and was hoping for a good low light motion camera, but this one ain't (nor will most point and shoot cameras)... It does amazing for nicely lit photos, but low light is not that great.
Now, I'm waiting for the Canon XS-i to go on sale in April/May... Specs for this dSLR look very promising!!!! :)
