i just bought the tomtom 720 gps... i couldnt figure out how to set the text- to-speech option. also, i changed my car icon from the blue arrow to a car, but it doesnt change. can someone help me?

you will only see that change in 3d mode. you cannot change the arrow icon in 2d. Text to speach option is not available in the 720, only the 920 series. IF your talking about "turn left on frank crescent" instead of "turn left in 200 meters" that feature is on there and should be automatic when you choose a computer voice. you must choose a computer voice. you can download extra ones from tomtom for free using tomtom home.

i changed the map view to 3d and was able to see the change in car icon. i also changed the voice to a computer voice, but "read aloud street names," "read foreign street anmes out loud," and "read aloud road numbers" are all grayed out and cannot be selected.

btw, i always thought that text-to-speech was reading street names. at least that was what i was told. anyway, tomtom website shows that the 720 has the text-to-speech option. what does it do anyway?

only some voices have the capability to do text to speech, most of the upgrade/aftermarket ones do not do text to speech.
