JVC HA-FX55 earphone discussion:

Hey guys,

I thought I share this bit of experience with you guys who own the FX55s. I have been comparing the FX55 to the Shure e2c (kramer-moded) and I am pretty freaking impressed by the sound quality of the FX55s. First all, I have the FX plugged in my speakers (Klipsch 2.1) and WOW, they are amazing. (Actually listening to it right now) I couldn't say the same when I use it with my iPod touch. I first thought these phones were garbage and thats because i paired it with an ipod. The bass isn't distorted and bloated. It's got good high and mids. I can't say the same for my e2c, I'm pretty disappointed with them. I'm using the rubber tips from the e2c on the JVC and they form a perfect seal for me. Oh did I mention that the FX55 is GREAT? ;) If you don't like the FX55, just give it another chance and try hearing it out from another source other than an iCrap. Let's hear some of your thoughts on these amazing phones.

Also, change the flimsy tips that are supplied with something better like Sony ones which are firm. These phones are better than ep-630 with the right source and tips. Ep-630 is too bass bloated, these however are not.

I bought these before when they were on sale at BB and yes, I agree they sounded quite good. I did have a pretty big problem though with the length of the wires. Firstly, the length of the wire itself is quite long and for me, a little hard to deal with considering each time I put my player away or take it out, I have to deal with this mess of a cord.

Secondly, because the earphones have a J-cord, one side will be longer than the other from the split. The problem I have here is the length from the split is very odd in that the left side is really short and ends up hanging off causing the left ear to feel like it's being tugged down. The right side from the fork on the other hand was quite long. It wasn't a big deal because I could just throw it behind my neck but even then, it looks odd on me because I've got this long wire hanging behind my neck and if I'm wearing a jacket, the cord might get caught up in it causing some tugging on my right ear as well.

With regards to sound, the IEMs are pretty good except the sound is a little on the quiet side and I have to turn up the volume higher than normal just to hear anything. These might be better with a different set of tips but, I didn't have any on hand so I couldn't really try.

If they fixed the cord, I would think these are a pretty good set. I ended up returning these though in favour of the Creative EP630's. They are a little bass heavy but, they sound decent enough and have (what I consider) a normal lengthed Y-cord which works a lot better. :razz:

How do these compare at blocking outside noises? I'm looking at these pairs and the fx66, also do these stay in your ear firmly?

Yup, the FX-55 is awesome - pretty balanced sound. I'm using my modded JVC FX-33 more now because it has a lot of bass and it's just more fun to listen to even if it's not as balanced or detailed. I have since left my ep-630 to collect dust since though it has much bass as the fx-33, it's worse in terms of bloatiness, and mids/highs that sound like they're in the far, far background. FX-33 is juust the right balance of highs/mids/lows for me.
