View Full Version : Sensor Dying?

I've started to notice that on my pictures I'm getting little black dots in the center of my photos. It almost looks like pixels aren't being captured.

The only thing I could conclude is that the sensor is dying out on me because it isn't lens dust or anything like that. So if it is the censor, is there anything I can do or am I SOL?

Here is an example of what I'm dealing with in the pictures I take.

Do you see the same dots when you shoot with aperture at wide open and aperture at F22?

i forgot to mention that this is a P&S camera so i can't really do any manual setting on it. it's a sony dsc-600.

sensors are pretty hard to die... esp in point and shoots

1. shoot with a max aperture and then with min aperture totally over exposing the photo. if you still see the dots in both then you can pretty much say its not dust

2. im sure you looked but check the front of the lense for dirt.

3. shoot a totally black photo meaning totally underexpose it. if it shows pixelated blocks then yes it is the sensor most likely.

4. it could be dust that got into the lense on the inside which i havent really ever seen in p&s but i think it does happen if its not sealed nice.

if it is the sensor throw out the camera lol. repairs are wayyy too steep to fix unless its warrantied.

gl!

It doesn't look like dust to me. Take a picture of a uniform dark background (set the camera on something stable or use a tripod).. see if those dots still show up. Either way it won't be worth repairing.

yeh unfortuently the dots are still there even when taken on a fairly dark backround. i'm guessing it's not usual for this to happen. i've taken over 6k of pics on this camera and it's been reliable so far and the quality of the pics are good.

i guess i'm gonna have to start my search for a dslr.

whoa. this is the first time ive heard someone with a burnt sensor on a p&s. at least you got your monies worth out of it. 6k is quite a bit for most users... although ive rolled over the 9999 on my G5 a couple of times lol
