 I bought a Fujifilm A820 when they were dirt cheap at Superstore a few months ago. It's been working great up until today when I decided to transfer some photos to the computer so I can e-mail them. I got an error message "USB device is not recognized". WTF? No issues before today, I tried unplugging the cable and plugged it into another USB port but still won't work. Other devices are working from those ports though so it's not the USB ports. I don't have another cable around to try but could that be the problem? Any other ideas?
As a last resort I will send it in to Fuji to get serviced as there doesn't seem to be any places that service digital cameras locally but it would be nicer to be able to fix it without going that route.

Did you try new batteries in the camera?

The batteries are charged. I don't have another computer to try the camera out on but that was a good suggestion. I plan on getting another cable on Monday to rule that out too. Anything else it could be?

Can't you take out the memory card and plug it into a multi-card reader?

The readers are dirt cheap nowadays and you won't kill the battery when transferring photos.

Did you restart the computer?

I've seen this with MP3 players before. Google "USB device is not recognized". It has something to do with the power draw by the device (assuming that it works ok on another computer). One solution was to turn the computer really off/on (using the power supply switch on the back).

If the camera doesn't work on a different computer, then it's defective

I will pick one up on Monday. Have been meaning to get one anyway.

Yup, couple of times.

I'll have to try on another computer to be sure. The camera itself still works, still takes more photos and stores them. I just cannot transfer them out of the computer anymore. If the reader works I will be happy with that solution.

Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone, I'll keep you posted.

It was the camera USB cable! Bizarre.
