I know i could call them and ask them this, but the truth is i am a little phone shy so i thought i would ask you great folks!

I casually buy cars at the auction and sell them, and i was thinking that i would be able to use this CC rebate when I buy an auction car. I was wondering if any of you would know.

From what i have read it seems like it would qualify, of course if it does not, surely buying a car through a private seller would... wouldn’t it?

If so then my only other question is - what is the cheapest way to get proof of insurance :D I don’t plan to drive the car, it is just another requirement to get the rebate.

Sure would be nice to have a 2% CC in Canada :P

The cheapest way to get "proof of insurance" is to scan any pink slip you have, open up Photoshop, alter pink slip to read whatever you want, print out your new "proof of insurance". Highly illegal I'm sure, but very cheap. Don't know how far that would get you with the Driver's Edge people, and don't care to find out...

Yeah...I think that's a crime...something called...........Fraud.

Indictable offenses for the win.

To the OP: See if Citi will allow you to only send in the bill of sale and the ownership - tell them you don't plan on driving it for a few years or that you'll be making a show car out of it.

Doubt it'll work though.

Find a car buyer and add him/her as a supplementary cardholder. Obviously, you will have to provide some incentive for him/her to present you with the required documents.

At least this way, it wouldn't be a fraud.

As tempting as the photoshop idea is :) I do mean the cheapest LEGAL way to get Proof of Insurance.

Now that I am thinking about it… I wonder if the cost of day insurance defeats the extra 1% cashback :S

Anyone good at Math?

I think day insurance is around $35 in BC. I currently have over $400 in rebates on my Driver's Edge card... Doesn't take any fancy math to figure that one out.

so *thinks*

1% of 3500 = $35
2% of 3500 = $70

So basically there are two ways to look at it.

You start to earn 2% cashback only after spending $1750 or you earn only 1% until you spend $3500 and then you start earning your full 2%

*i do know the card pays 2% from your first dollar, this is just how long it would take in order to compensate from having to pay $35 for day insurance in order to redeem your rebate.
