What types of memory cards can D-SLRs use? Only CompactFlash or SD also?

Nikon/Pentax/Canon Xsi uses SD
The rest use compact flash.

there may be some variances here and there. Not too sure about olympus, too lazy to check dpreview.com

Depends on the model.

Some use SD, most use CompactFlash, with Olympus using xD for some of their cameras.
