Saw this article and decided to watch it ...

I am guilty of leaving my son in his carseat while I pump gas every so often. I didn't realize how big of a factor it is if he's just left alone. I would say that my wife and I drive a 2000 Honda Odyssey that don't have any power windows in either of the sliding door or @ the back. But I wouldn't, I feel really bad that such things happens even on the most simplest thing.
I am also a big witness of other who leaves there son or daughter inside the car while the parents run their errands. I do hope they see this article and learn from a sad true experience.
God Bless and please take good care of our little ones.

I saw this report few months ago & it's very sad that this happened:cry: I am lucky that my car has the safety feature built into the power windows (front & rear, I checked) I feel it should be mandatory that they install it in all cars, so such things don't ever happen.

I find Marketplace a good group at lobbying for corporate parents.
100% Responsibility/liability = industry seems to be the way they think.

yah .. the vehicle they used on the show was a VW Jetta, which was pretty neat. I'd never seen such options on power windows. I was wondering it's possible to have this option installed on your vehicle. I believe it was like $8 per door.
I'm really more careful when we're in the parking lot hanging out and teaching my son which buttons go with what.

I have yet to own a vehicle where the power windows work without the keys in the ignition.
Maybe we are all better off if stupid people don't reproduce.
I used to like marketplace and I still watch it some times but over the years they have become more and more "the nanny state must regulate and protect us from everything"

Why won't the American car companies just change the button to be similar to Toyota's? In my Camry, you have to pull up on the latch to make the window go up.

This isn't a problem on my car - the windows are crank powered. Is the solution really simpler than the problem?

Why on earth would you let your car run while you're leaving your kids alone in your car? I never understood why and they aren't even that old too!! Power window's don't work if the car isn't on or the keys in the ignition. I don't blame the car manufacturer's but the stupidity of the parents. Sorry if this sounds harsh but when I read or hear about stories like this one it makes me mad.

You cannot legislate common sense. There will always be parents out there who will manage to endanger their kids regardless of any laws passed. Fortunately most parents think first but I'm sure some have just been really lucky they didn't get caught or have a tragedy happen.

Why cant parents just teach their kids not to do stupid things or supervise them when there is danger?
Im sure when you reach a certain age you know what to do and not to do...

Just some personal observations but some people don't know the difference between breeding and parenting. They have no idea how difficult the job is or what the job entails before undertaking it. Some will admit that they find it a tough job and will say if they knew how difficut it is properly raising a child they would never have had kids. But most people truly think they are Parents of the Year and don't want to admit otherwise even if it costs their own children. They are the first ones to say "accidents can happen".

I can't believe we haven't yet sued shovel manufacturers for making a product without a safety device that prevents it from being smashed over a young child's head.
And think of all the problems gravity causes every year! Why hasn't the government started regulating and protecting us from gravity, dammit?!?!

Besides the fact that you shouldn't leave the kids in the car in the first place, never mind with the with the keys in it, and don't all cars with power locks have a lock-out feature?
This should be a non-issue.

i would agree with you but i think we should look @ this in a more bigger picture ... in your day to day routine, is there anything that you know that opens and close that would be a potential to hurt kids and toddlers?
Garage Door
Elevator
revoloving doors .. like in bus and subways
handicap doors .. most buildings do have this

How about we just put our kids in a bubble and not let them out of your house?
