What do you think of investing in Altamira's Globe-Trotter Deposit Note with Low Point in this time of volatility? Their financial specialist is trying to tell me it's the best to time to invest in this because it picks the lowest point within the year and the principal is guaranteed if it is kept for 8 years.
I'm thinking of long term - RRSP and RESP.

But I'm not convinced. I honestly believe that the US economy is in deep recession and is going to hit us here in a year or two. It will hit stock market and real estate market. So I'm not sure if I should invest in anything now even this low point note.

My husband is generally against any long term investment (such as RRSP) as he thinks in 20-30 years there will a world criss due to climate change and end of oil and nobody is going to guarantee our investment. This is another topic but isn't anyone else worried?

Thanks for reading.

Not familiar with the specific product, but an 8 year principal protected note would ignore inflation, so it wouldn't actually protect your capital. If they just returned your money after 8 years, it would have around 20% less buying power (at current inflation rates).

As for your husbands fears, if that's what he truly believes, and you as well, then you should be investing all your money into things like solar panels and wood stoves, not financial products. At least it would protect you against energy price super spikes, as well as guarantee you heat and power. If you're not going to invest in anything long term, you may as well at least use your money to offset the effects of inflation that will otherwise leave you in financial trouble in future.
