Hey all
Im looking to buy a digital camera, my budget is around the 200.
I was looking at these three:
Kodak EasyShare 7.1MP Digital Camera (Z712IS) $200
Canon PowerShot SD750 or SD1000 (black) $269.99
Fuji FinePix 9.0MP Digital Camera (A900) $160
Im not a professionals photographer and just need it for fun.
If anybody has any suggestions or experience with any of those please let me know.
Thanks

Buy a Canon SD1000 for function and size, that Z712S & A900 are plastic toys. It's going on sale at Shopper Drug Mart next at the end of month. I bought mine from RFD with reciept included and there's another RFDer selling his @ cost from Staples $149+TAX+$20 SD Card:
$190 http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=552974&highlight=sd1000
Or you can buy his camera and buy my SD card and save an extra $5. RFD is about helping others save money.

Thanks for the reply 7jaii.
So you think the kodak camera is bad, i know its plastic and all but it has a really good zoom capabilities.
And btw what is that anti-shake technology and which cameras have it?

Id personaly stay away from Kodak, based on passed experiences. Go with the Canon, it has great reviews so far and its very well priced.
Image-Stabilizasion is great for low light pictures, however im not sure if I would pay the extra $$ for it. Camera's that have this feature normaly advertise it in their names like Canon SD870is...

Canon PowerShot A720 IS
That's another winner but the form factor is very different. Powershot A series use AA batteries (standard or rechargeable), and offer more functions and housed in a heavier/sturdier body. Those who started on "Canon A" usually stick with this line and rave about convenience. I believe the A70 is the best selling Canon Digital camera of all time.
"Canon SD" series are thinner & lighter but use proprietary Lith-ion batteries that are more expensive to replace than standard AA. The SD1000 is the best priced in its line. It enjoys the same dependability as other SD cameras and the only difference is IS feature. Compare this to any other brand in this price point and you understand why Canons are so popular (PM that seller I posted, his sale includes receipts for 1 Year warranty. I couldn't find one for 30 days!).
Before anyone calls me a Canon fanboy I own a Lumix, previously owned Sony | Konica | Leica | Nikon, for point-and-shoot photography you can't go wrong with A or SD series.

Thank you for your help 7jaii.
I like the canon as well so i might actualy go with that.
Just one last question, whet do you think about these two cameras?
Olympus 7.1MP Digital Camera (SP-550UZ) - $279
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7 - $199 (including: battaries and charger + case)
These sales are now on at futureshop so i thought it may be worth to take a look.

I encourage you to leave your money at home and go to a place like Henry's (if there isn't one nearby then just go to Bestbuy or Furtureshop). Try out each camera, feel it in your hands and use all the functions, is it comfortable and is the LCD clear. Does it take nice pictures, does it use standard memory card, etc...
When you return home, figure out what you're willing to spend tax in with memory card included. Then ask yourself do you like smaller cameras or ones with more functions. Before you leave to purchase your camera be sure to research feedback & reviews for your camera - this prevents buyer's remorse. You get the most out of your camera if you learn to use it. You can give me a crap HP camera and in time I can learn to appreciate it.
You are not buying a DSLR so forget about wannabes like that Olympus. If you like Olympus then purchase their water-resistant line because it's good. This Lumix is near identical with Canon's A Series so it's a toss-up. Both are good.
If I was buying a camera today from your posted list then I would choose SD1000. I own one. I had to wait for one for 30 days because nobody was flipping at Staples' discounted price. At $190 with 2GB memory you're getting a better deal than that bottom of the barrel Kodak. My second choice would be the Lumix or A720. Don't take my word for it - after you test each camera you'll notice 2 or 3 companies put out excellent consumer camera lines; the rest are pretenders *ahem* HP, Kodak, Fujifilm, Konica, Pentax, long list.

Kodak EasyShare 7.1MP Digital Camera (Z712IS) $200
I own in and I'm impressed with it especially since all the 7+ MP cameras were in the 300+ range

Good overall... but I dislike the noisy images (and heavy noise reduction) and the slow flash recycle time.

I did really like the SD750 due to its big screen so i think i will go with that.
It is $250 right now with a 2 gb card and a tripod.
btw does the SD1000 or 750 have IS?

I suggets you check out dpreview.com.
here is a compairison of the SD1000 and the LZ7
link (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_sd1000%2Cpanasonic_dmclz7&show=all)
I love both of my panasonic cameras so I'd say go Panisonic but I am bias. Just taking a quick look at the side by side compairison the LZ7 has a larger zoom and image stablization, but the SD1000 has a much sexier form factor. If you want something that will fit in your pocket get the SD1000. If size isn't a huge factore take a good look at both camera's. The LZ7 isn't big, it's just not as small as the SD1000

i finally got the sd 750 and i think its great!
Its sexy, small, has lots of features that i really like and most of all takes great photos.
From what i understand the these cameras dont really need IS since they have a very fast shatter.
anyways great camera and thanks for the help.
btw the panasonic isnt bad at all, i just didnt like the part that it uses batteries and my gf like the canon looks better

Shatter
That being said, if you're in a bright environment with lots of lighting, then the shutter speed will be quick enough so that generally you won't need the IS. Once lighting deteriorates, the shutter will have to remain open longer to let the same amount of light in... this is where IS comes in.

AA batteries are good in that they are conveniently found almost anywhere whereas proprietary Li-Ion are not so convenient. As long as you are aware of the battery level, I think you would be ok.

After using the Canon SD750 i think i will be returning it and i will get the Panasonic one.
There is nothing wrong with the canon camera i just think there is nothing special in it that is worth the price, maybe its small size but nothin revolutionary.

Yes that true, the big screen is nice, but when it comes to picture quality i dont think it will make much difference especially when the panasonic has the IS option.

Ok... i need another opinion.
What do you think about that camera?
Sony Cyber-Shot 8.1MP Digital Camera (DSCH7B) - $329
Is it a good deal and is it worth the money?

Stay clear of Sony. It's trash. If you want to spend that kind of cash, look at the Panasonic FX07. It blows away the competition by leaps and boundries. Its the only camera in that size with a proper 28 mm wide angle lens, has IS, beautiful screen, and the intelligent ISO system is really handy. Trust me, that is the best camera you can get. Until you hit the $349 price range where the Canon SD870IS and the Panasonic TZ3 come in to play.
