So my parents went to FS a couple weeks ago and went the whole 9 yards - bought the Canon SD870 IS, extra battery, 4 year extended warranty and camera bag pushing the total above $500. I hadn't known, otherwise I would have done some price hunting for them.
I currently have a Canon S80. I am not yet a camera person but since I have just bought a Sanyo VPC-CA6 digital camcorder that fits my portability needs and have always enjoyed the feedback of the mechanical shutter as well as the speeds of DSLRs, I was considering giving my parents the S80 and getting a used DSLR.
The S80 is not quite targeted to the same market due to size and the S80 is from an older generation but how would you compare the SD870 IS to the S80 and what other options should my parents be looking at that could be considered the same class as the SD870IS?
