i don't think pmall has 'bootleg' frames.. its the quality of the lenses that are garbage...
when i used to wear contact lenses all the time... i had these glasses from Fuji at pmall (no name frames.for home use only) and the 'anti-glare, UV protecting, etc.' special coating they put on the lenses are garbage. after a month or two i could see that the coating was beginning to peel off.
i now have these Gucci frames that i purchased at an optical shop near my house... called... "Optical Shop" and their lenses are great.
basically... the only reason pmall might be cheaper in price is because of the crap lenses... not fake frames

Counterfeit material can be bought from anywhere (even from legit stores who don't know they're selling fakes) but I would say that pmall has a horrible reputation for selling fakes and chances are you will be buying one over 80% to 90% of the time.
If you still do decide to purchase just make sure that you get a guarantee and are allowed to return or exchange if a problem happens and get this in writing to avoid any further complications. Good eyeglass shops should have no problems exchanging frames or redoing prescriptions if something is not right for no additional fees.

I use to think the same but picked up a $400+ Chanel frame+lenses about a year ago and no complains....and they ARE real :D
Also remember you can bargain....I went around all the stores and each store seemed to give a different price but once they saw me holding another stores card, offered me the same price. But the one I bought from them actually beat the others price. So be prepared to bargain

I also bought a pair of prada glasses from Good Eyes Optical last week. So far I am satisfied. I did question them about being authentic - said it comes with the original deliverables (prada box, prada case with authentication card - got all of them). It's true that can be faked too. I believe they said you can call and get authentication on the store or serial number ... I don't remember now

I bought a pair of Alain Mikli's from Optical 88.
I have had them for about 2-3 years, no problems with them (i.e. coat peeling etc).
There is a RFD member that works (or used to work) there, ah_long, he is very knowledgeable about the industry and the products.

I wish I had known he works there before I bought my glasses. Oh well.

Pmall is more oriented to SALES. Sometimes you may get an experience optician that really tries to fit your face, eyes, to a frame and good lenses. But that is rare. They are more interested in attracting customers to their latest, coolest frames, lenses. Mass production, mass sales.
For a few years, I've bought glasses from Pmall (Optical 88, Fuji, etc..) and then last year I went to another optical store that is stand alone (inside a hospital) that my company has partnered with. Boy was it ever better !! Its like night and day. The shop's owner (Optician?) knows so much more about fit, comfort, lenses.
The glasses I got from Pmall last year were stylish, but they are too heavy for my face, doesn't fit me well (it fit me great at the store before lenses were put in), and with the clip on sunglasses, it gets even more heavier. I also get slightly dizzy when I wear these Pmall glasses. Now, I go back to wearing my older glasses from the Optician, feels so much better in all areas.
So yes, you get what you pay for.
Pmall - amazingly new styles, cheaper frames, cheap lens, poor experience on eyes, fit
Opticians - slightly older styles, not cheaper frames, excellent lens, excellent experience on what fits you, your eyes, your face, etc.
For me, I'm going back to non-Pmall type opticians places. I'd rather have a more experienced Optician that cares about my eyes and spends more time with me. My eyes are important to me, I don't need crappy lenses that can potential warp my vision, mess up my eyeballs for the future.

if you get oakleys from an optical shop through oakley (i.e. oakley lenses with a prescription)you rarely can get any discount because oakley lenses to begin with are very expensive and they have a set price from oakley

pmall does not sell bootleg frames. they sell imitation ones at times, but those ones aren't labeled. also. for those questioning the lenses, they do exactly the same thing that companies like lenscrafter do, order from a supplier. they don't make the lenses themselves so any problem with that is a manufacture problem.

I just got a pair of glasses from a-look optical. Got high index 1.74 nikon5 lenses w/ ICE coating w/ "designer" frame and custom made clip-on sunglasses for $575.
Glasses are pretty nice although a little part of me wonders if the lenses are real (even though I got the certificate of authenticity and the packettes that the lenses came in).
The girl who helped me spent a lot of time helping find the right pair and didn't push the "in style" stuff as much as some of the other stores. Much more of a laid back atmosphere.
Went to the store right off the elevator to the left (when you come up from the parking lot) and it's full of these girls who are totally useless and had to defer to an older lady who, when I was trying on frames and didn't like them actually said, "You aren't comfortable with who you are and that is why you don't like these frames" to my face. And their prices were the highest in PMall for what are pretty much similar products (a lot of the frames are similiar to other stores).
Good Eyes tried hard to sell to me and the girl seemed pretty pissed off when I walked away when she had managed to get her boss to give me a discount. But unfortunately for her, I liked the frames at a-look better.

Between my husband and myself, we've bought about a dozen pairs of glasses from Pmall over the last 10yrs. We used to go to Fuji for their cheaper prices, but the frames are generic and do not last more than a year before warping or peeling. The last two places I bought from were Noble Optical (Burberry frames) and Good Eyes (Prada frames). The frames are authentic and you get all the boxes, packaging, matching dust cloths, certificates. Both brands certainly outlasted all my other ones. The frame and lenses cost me around $200 per pair for ultra thin lenses with scratch resistant coating (took some bargaining and buying 2prs at a time).

I'm sure if you walk through Pacific Mall you will find the entire Prada collection, any one of the retailers can order a specific frame for you.
Personally, I bought my current Prada's at Good Eyes. Price was good and I have no doubts that they are real, even compared to the Lenscrafters models. Bought my previous Diesel glasses and Ray Ban prescription sunglasses at Optical 88, same thing, real and good prices.
Worst part for me is finding a pair of glasses that I like, when I broke my Diesel's it took me two weeks and a lot of visits to Pacific Mall to find a pair that I was comfortable with.

Mar 5th, 2008, 02:22 PM
from my experience; as I worked at an optical store at pmall before...
they don't sell bootlegged frames. Well for the one i worked at; i am certain that they don't - apparantly sellers/ manufacturers of brand name companies (i.e gucci, oakley, ray ban etc) sometimes drop by to the stores that they deal with to check. If they noticed that they sell 'fake' frames, i believe they wont continue to do business with them (which is something that the pmall owners don't want) or it will go into some legal issues.
Its highly likely that the frame is real when they tell you that they have a 1 year manufacturer's warranty
However, sometimes you might run into certain frames that may "look" like brand names one... they're probably just house brand frames or cheaper ones - but they should clearly indicate that they're not brand names
As for the quality of the lens; it really depends - these optical stores do just outsource this to somebody else to do the lens. so if you dont trust their lens, you can always get the frame with the warranty and then do the lens at a more reliable place that you know of.

I would highly suggest avoiding Good Vision Optical. Their sales staff is rude and unknowledgable (either genuinely or as a deliberate attempt to mislead), and commission is their primary objective, not service. So far it's the only store that has tried so hard to push the high-index lenses on people with low prescriptions (ie $50-100 extra for NO REASON), with the explanation that "It makes a huge difference". Everu other store says it's unnecessary. And refusal to go with their suggestions or questions as to just what kind of difference it makes will just get you attitude from their other sales staff.
The products themselves are not bad, but then again it's probably the same with the 15 other optical stores in the mall. If that's the case, why bother with the store, just save yourself some time and potential grief, and haggle with the other 14 carrying identical wares. If you really want to give the shop a chance, make 100% sure you do your research before putting a dime on the table, or at least getting a second, third or fourth opinion from a different store in the mall.

With people spreading rumors that pmall sells fake glasses, stop it.
All the optical shops that sells the brand name glasses and sunglasses are real. Sure, they might sell some some cheaper frames that look like some designer styles, but are not labelled in the designer's name.
With the volume of sales each shop gets, one bad pair can pretty much tarnish the shops reputation and put them out of business.
My wife and I brought tons of glasses/sunglasses there and never in any doubt they are real. I've sold some glasses that I brought from pmall myself on classifieds and some buyers wanted them to be check out at Holts etc and ive gladly took them to get it verified.

a lot of people tends to forget the most important element of a pair of glasses is the lens. There is a reason why Costco sells lens for $200, whereas some small store sells them for $30.
I got my glass from Harkim and a shop in Pmall. Neither of them measure the distance between my two eyes, I had to ask them to take it. I am not sure how they usually make eye glasses. Assuming they use good lens, they would still have problem to make good glasses.
my comment does not target to Pmall optical shops, it's a general statement about lots of store.

Finally found parking this weekend @ Pac Mall.
How many damn optical stores are there in this place???
We visited about 12 different stores that I can count. Went to at least 3 stores twice, cuz they all look the same after walking through this maze of a mall.
Ended up getting a pair of Dolce's. Had them checked out at Sunglass Hut against the identical model. I don't think anyone needs to worry about the legitimacy.
With the amount of traffic and sales they get, someone would have already made a pretty big fuss if they we're conned.
Considering the large population of asians who post on rfd. This is probably the first place you would hear someone scream knockoff specs.
Then theres always Silverman:

After two pairs of glasses I got from Pmall, both having problems (when I checked it out from another optometrist office), I never going back to those Asian glasses places.
They are only interested in selling you the style, the most profitable ones they have, and they don't look at your face, features, shape, fit, etc. And on top of that, their lenses were off the mark, making me dizzy.

Ivan's is pretty good, you can see that it is quite busy relative to the other stores. The reason for this is that their customer service is better in general. Somewhat rare for a chinese store

Are these stores all still around in Pacific mall??
My coverage is available again and want to pick up a 2 or 3 pairs (have $700 in coverage), 1 pair of glasses and 1 or 2 of sunglasses.
Main concern is lenses, I want good quality that will last me a 2-3 years at minimum.
Always went to lenscrafters previously and they cost a lot, but there service and quality is really good, but glasses cost about $400-$500 out the door.
-I hear you can get good stuff at pacific mall for $200-250 all in, is this true??
How much in terms of % are people negotiating off, especially if I want a couple pairs, would assume I would be able to get a nice size discount.
How long does it take for them to put lenses in the glasses...Same day?? or a few days?
If there is a pair of sunglasses I want but the they are too curved to put lens's in, will they still write them up as prescription?? I have heard of this happening here, never tried anywhere b4 but would assume you would be able to...my prescription isn't that strong and wouldn't really care if they didn't have lens.
I am in Oakville so does anyone know of somewhere a little closer to me that negotiates and has good quality brand name glasses and sunglasses?
I might try that clearlycontacts thread I saw on here, but just takes a long time for me to find what I like on my face.

i just brought my frames into pmall to get lenses put in them so hopefully they turn out okay. i paid $70
as for frames, i don't know how cheap they sell them for at pmall but i highly recommend getting frames off ebay stores. i bought a pair of burberry be 1052 frames for $100 and they are exactly the same as the ones they sell at lens crafters for $309 plus taxes. and thats' just for the frames. shipping was pretty fast two, got them in less than a week
i was skeptical about buying from ebay but they are identical after comparing them. so even if it is fake, they did a pretty good job copying them.
i recommend trying on the frames you like and then buying them on ebay. i saved so much money. just make sure you're buying from a top seller with a high positive rating.

You are requesting that stores commit insurance fraud. I think your insurance plan only stipulates 1 pair of glasses per cycle, but i could be wrong.
