I would recommend getting a watch from a real watch company rather than a designer label

Why didn't you buy a watch from a brand that just makes watches, like Tissot or something in that price range? Just wondering

The watch I got is a swiss made good quality watch.
Not all designer watches are crap.

Sams club and costco also sell designer watches. My brother got a Fendi watch from Sams club. Good prices.

Many designer brands are actually made by Fossil. They won't come with as long a warranty but chances are they're just as reliable.
Except maybe Nautica, I heard somewhere that Nauticas are available at the Timex seasonal warehouse sales, so I'm guessing many Nautica watches are Timex inside.
I think the Bay locations in Downtown Toronto do have a small sample of some of the high-price brands (especially on Queen) but not as much as HR.

They have unique designs but I heard their quality isn't the best. Alot of their watches are not swiss made, look at the label and its doesn't say anything about being swiss made. Most watches swiss made will say it on the face. Even Rolex will say it is swiss made.
I think when people are telling you to diss the designer brands, does not mean to go timex, but get it from a company that specializes in watches. This could be a moderately high end company like a movado, rado, tag heur and omega. Movado being much cheaper.
Designer watches are far too seasonal or yearly and their prices drop like a rock after a couple years. I don't look at Gucci(much better than the other two), D and G or armani as high end for watches(you seem to be projecting you want something highend). They are simply too cheap. a 200 dollar starting price to at most a several grand when they are made out of pure gold or covered with diamonds is really cheap for a watch. In the world of watches, once you get out of stuff made in Japan(seiko, citizen) or made in China(walmart, drugstores) or swatch(which is often swiss made). The average price of a watch for a particular brand goes up dramatically.
If you want a good watch that you can pass down or doesn't look tacky after a couple years, get a company that specializes in watches.
I will admit those some of the Louis vuitton tambour watches are really nice, but louis vuitton(or atleast their watches) are a priced a couple notches above the brands you are shopping for.
By the way, the Bay sells sells watches that are as expensive as d and G and Armani. And I heard that alot of their watches(dolce and armani) are made by fossil which in my opinion has bad reliability.

Some good info...I didn't specifically want D&G or Armani, it was just for example sake, where I couldve just said designer watch.
As previously indicated, I sided on a pretty contemporary/not seasonal burberry black face watch.
It's not at all tacky, but it's functional, and it's good quality.
But I hear what you're saying.
