We're expecting twins in May (probably be April).

A friend has lent me this stroller:

She's also lent me one car seat for it (she had borrowed the second one and has since give it back).

So, I need to buy another infant car seat. I will not buy a used one, but I'd like to find one that isn't too expensive.

Does anyone know if any other brands of car seats will fit onto this stroller?

Are there any 2007 models still out there in stores? I really don't care about fabric, so if it's an older model, but cheaper, I'd go for it.

Bring the stroller to Walmart or Sears and see what you can try out. My local Sears has the displays on the floor so you can try them out; Walmart seems to keep displays on shelf and chained down.

Peg Perego isn't cheap, so just buy it if you must; don't cheap out on your kids. Look at it this way, you borrowed the stroller so you didn't spend $850 on it. $200-$300 on a carseat is peanuts if you didn't shell out for the stroller.

Keep in mind though, a $300 carseat is not necessarily better/safer than one that is $100.

Just make sure you choose one that is safe, gets good reviews, and always check for recalls. Get one that fits nicely into your vehicle and with a handle that makes it easy for you to get it in and out of the car.

This site is quite useful if you're in Canada:
http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/childsafety/menu.htmBeing a new parent myself, I assumed the OP was lookng for a carseat that will fit into the stroller. That's why I suggested trying different ones (Graco, Evenflo etc) before buying. I assume the Peg Perego ones will definitely fit the stroller, and range in price from $200-$300.

Keep in mind that the infant seat is usually used for only the first 6 months or so (both my boys were out at that age, too big), so spending $200-300 is a bit much for such a small time usage.

All car seats must meet the same safety requirements to be sold in Canada, so the Graco/Evenflo seats for under $100 will do you fine. Save your money for a better convertible seat that your child will use for several years after the infant seat.

WE have the exact one as our twins were born in September. Bought both peg car seats to go with it. If you guys were a 1-2 months later, we'd have all the pcs you need.

Best of luck with the search.

BTW: the steering wheel will save your wrists!

It is very likely that only a pegperego car seat will fit onto a pegperego stroller. I have a single pegperego stroller and was not able to fit any other car seat. So we went and made the worst purchase ever. Spent $300 on the Primo Viaggio SIP car seat that I HATE. It is soooo heavy that I can hardly lift it to put in the car. Imagine lifting two of this? The handles are not comfortable either and it is one of the only car seats that require that the handle be moved to the back when placing in the car. The angle of the car seat is extremely uncomfortable for the baby, the baby is an almost in seating up right position. Add some 10 pounds (of a baby) to the car seat that you have received and try to lift it and see how it feels (although for you it might be easier then your wife).

My dd is 4 months old and I am switching do a graco car seat from a friend with the snap n go frame. I have another friend that has the Primo Viaggio and uses it only when her husband comes along to lift the car seat. I would buy a top rated car seat like the Graco SnugRide. Two graco car seats will cost you like one pegperego. They have excellent rating and weigh much much less.

For the first few months all you would need is one of those stroller frames that allow you to snap the car seats in. It will take less space and will be less bulky.

I would buy the stroller frame in the states as the selection is larger and prices and defiantly lower.

Do your homework and buy new. You don't need the expensive brands but researching helps track down the dependable ones (most are at Wal-Mart, go figure).

It's not a matter of saving money but ensuring used units haven't been tampered or suffered a crash. A lot of thought goes into manufacturing one and their weight guide is pretty strict. Don't forget to phone your local police to ask if they have a seat inspection squad. They are the most knowledgeable people I've met and can show you how to put one in correctly. I watched and felt like a fool...a seat really needs to be secure.

Strollers are another matter - Peg is a good brand and many other. Buy used from Children's Supply second hand. You save 50% or more compared to a shops like DearBorn. Again, Wal-Mart, Zellers and Canadian Tires have good deals on New, go to Children's 2nd hand with good reputations for used.

Our Graco snugride fit fine in our Peg Pliko P3 stroller. I assume the same goes for the double stroller.

Were you able to click it into the stroller? I know that the Pliko comes with a belt to strap in other brands of car seats but it is not steady at all, the car seat simply seats on top of the stroller and not clipped to any thing. A small bump in the road and the car seat will simply go flying, I have seen it.

No, Graco and other brands of carseats do not click/lock into the Peg strollers. I used the belt provided by Peg to strap in the carseat. I guess we've been lucky so far as we have not encountered a bump big enough to cause the carseat to fly out.

Actually, this is the one my wife and I decided just before December last year

I was never a fan of the graco brand but the newer ones are compatible with any of the graco products. For example on the back portion of the dual stroller, you can fit the baby car seat thru it and I'm sure it fits in the front too. this was a bigger cuz my son is about 2.5 years old and my daugther is 4 months. The only problem is that it's only for the newer strollers and baby car seats for the graco products.

hope this helps.

I am in agreement that the Peg seats are overpriced for the amount of usage you'll get from them. Also, depending on if your car has lower anchors or not (2002 or newer will have them, a few models did in 2001,) it may be difficult to install the base. I've found seatbelt installs of the base are hit and miss - it is sometimes just incompatible with some seating positions in the car. The other reason I generally don't recommend peg perego carriers is because they expire 5yrs from the date of manufacture compared to 6yrs from other brands. Considering they're almost double the price and expire a year earlier, they're just not good value IMO.

The post quoted is also correct about all seats meeting the same safety standards, so there is no best seat. Choose one that fits your vehicle the best and will be easy for you to use. Fit to child you won't be able to confirm until after the twins are born. ;)

That being said, with twins you're likely to have babies that are a bit smaller than a full term and will likely get more than 6mos use from any carrier. I'm not sure how far along your wife is right now, but twins are quite frequently born premature, so I'd look for a carseat with low bottom slots. The evenflo seats fit the bill quite nicely and you'll be able to find one with a front adjust harness if you look around. The Graco snugride will likely also do you fine. Again, look for a front adjust harness.

Front adjust harnesses are preferable to the back adjust ones because they're easier to use and increase the likelihood that the harness will be tightened properly on the baby. Smaller babies can be harder to position in the carseat, and will pretty much necessitate loosening and tightening the harness every single time they go in and out of the carseat. With having to do that with possibly 2 seats, you'll definitely want one with a front adjust harness. You pay more for a front adjust, but it is 100% worth it.

The Peg Perego seats will have a front adjust harness, and provided you know both the care history and whether it's been involved in a collision, using the one from your friend is perfectly fine. (In terms of care, make sure the straps have never been washed. Most manufacturers only allow the straps to be wiped down with water, although a few allow a mild soap to be used in the water as well - but submerging the straps is a no-no.)

In terms of being upright, provided the seat is reclined within the manufactuers recommendations, all infant seats should end up at a similar angle. With newborns I generally recommend that the seat be reclined as far as possible while still keeping it in the recommended range.

Unless you buy a Graco carseat, the handle will have to be in the down position in the vehicle, so if space is a concern, you may want to just go straight to the snugride or safeseat. If there's any chance of your twins being premature though, I'd avoid the Safeseat because it might not fit them well depending on their size.

Hope that helps your out some, and congrats on the coming arrival of your twins. :cheesygri

I'm curious about this statement - is it ok to have the handle up on a Graco carseat? Why is this different for a Graco?

if you read manual it will tell if you handle can be left up or not in the case of graco models it can be. It had be put down in most models as in a crash the infant seat can be pushed into forward and may break off and then it may cause injury to other passengers or the baby

Been using a Graco seat (the red/black from dearborn seems to have all the best features like foam+styrofoam, quick adjust button, good durable cloth) with a Peg Aria without any issues. The Graco doesn't click in but the back does lock, not the front. You should use the strap, but you would literally need to flip the Aria for the seat to fall out because it is so snug. Your duette looks to be the same design, but best go to a store and stick in and try out.
