So got the crib, but now need a decent well made mattress and accessories. Which one do you guys recommend and where from?

Had a look at toys r us, and they range from $50 upwards. Obviously logic will say the more expensive they are, the better, but we all know that isn't true most of the time.

So which brand/make have you found to hold up well from your experience?

Don't forget that there's 2 different sizes thickness wise. If you are already getting bedding from someone, check to make sure you get the right size.

Some are 4" or so thick while other are 6" thick. They are the same width and length, but fitted sheets for one will not fit on the other. I had a mix of sheets, so half of them never fit properly

Thanks for that. I guess the 6: thick one would be ideal, more cushion

Yes, the more expensive ones are built like a regular mattress with inner springs. They also have a heavier cover (more wear resistant). The cheaper ones are made of foam that eventually breaks down.

If I remember, the big difference is based on how many kids you plan to have - the cheaper ones are good for 1 baby, then starts to get too soft.

If you have a regular crib and are planning to switch toddler to a regular bed in a couple of years, then a cheaper mattress is fine. If you have a convertible crib, then the mattress is going to see double duty as a toddler bed and a more expensive one will be better.

BTW, one thing to watch out for is that baby might not like sleeping in the crib at all. In that case, an expensive crib and mattress will be wasted.
