Hey,

I know Acne.org is a pretty well recommended site, I was wondering if anyone had tried Daniel's products.

I'm considering stepping away from the brandname/"designer" skincare products like Biotherm, etc...

I know Cetaphil and SpectroJel is recommended, but I dunno if I can get used to the non-lather wash.

He seems to have a very good price on the Benzoyl Peroxide gel, but I don't suffer from major acne so I don't see myself using such a huge bottle.

And I'm looking for a moisturizer with SPF so I wont be using his.

Any thoughts? Or other recommendations?

Cheers

I've used the BP and the cleanser from them. The BP is awesome, absorbs quickly, no caking and no white run off.

The cleanser I'm not a big fan of. The best thing about it is that it lathers up really nicely so you can actually use it as a shaving cream but I don't care for the smell. It has no artficial fragrance but you do smell the mixture of the ingredients that's in the wash which has a kind of plastic bottle like scent. Secondly, the cleanser seems to strip my face more and leaves it a bit on the shiny side. I find my face to be oilier at the end of the day because my face tries to overcompensate for the dryness. I find Cetaphil to be the same. I currently use Phisoderm for normal and oily skin and I find it to be better than Cetaphil and most other cleansers. It rinses off cleaner without the aforementioned down side and it's cheaper.

I just ordered a bottle of the moisturizer from Dan's site. I'll post something about it when I get to try it out. It might be good for a nighttime moisturizer since it doesn't have SPF. I read on his blog that he is making one with SPF soon. Might be out before the summer?

Currently I use Dove's Moisturizer with SPF15. http://www.dove.ca/face/essential_nutrients/day_lotion_spf_15

It's reasonably priced, around 7 to 8 bucks and it's pretty good even for dry Alberta winters. Though I do find it a bit on the heavy side on those hot mucky summer days.

Hawaiian Tropic Faces SPF 30 is by far my favourite daytime moisturizer. It dries pretty quickly and feels light and not greasy on my face. Works well under makeup too. It doesn't cost very much either.

At night, I just use cetaphil lotion and I wash with cetaphil cleanser. I have no problems with either and got used to the no-lather wash quickly. Unlike the above poster, I found that the wash didn't leave a residue like a lot of other cleansers and doesn't leave my skin feeling as dry or irritated. Sometimes I mix a little baking soda into the cetaphil to make a gentle scrub. I recently bought the Loblaws store brand Exact of cetaphil cleanser and lotion. Works the same, had the same ingredients, was just cheaper. If you're going to purchase cetaphil, don't do it at SDM because it's super-expensive unless it goes on sale.

I only have mild acne on my forehead and the DKR BP solves it and keeps it in control. I highly recommend the Daniel Kern BP if you've got some acne.

I didn't like the smell of the facewash either, but it did act similarly to cetaphil. I really dislike the moisturizer. I think it is the DKR line's worst product. It kind of stings and irritates my skin.

Just an update on Dan's moisturizer, stay away from it.

It has jojoba oil in it and it might not be the best thing for troubled skin. I tried it on my forehead and had a minor break out within a couple of days. Apparently quite a number of people are allergic to it which is a shame cuz otherwise the moisturizer feels light and nice.

I didn't think our skin was any different. Do you have recommendations for either?

//edit: Just looking for a moisturizer that has SPF and isn't oily/heavy. And another for the evening. I'm thinking Olay Total Effects SPF15.

Also a face wash that's fragrance-free but also lathers so I can use for shaving.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm on a tighter budget some items <$10 would be preferable =) (which Olay isn't. gonna either try dove or hawaiian tropics...)

^^ I dont think our skin is that much different but there are alot of companies that do make their products to gear towards men only.

It's pretty tough to find an effective and cheap product that works on all skin types. Are you normal? oily, dry, combo, problem, or sensitive skin type?

It's pretty tough to find a light spf moisturizer. If you want something cheap, maybe you should try Baxter of California. Their products are pretty cheap and quite effective as well. They have a wide range of products from spf moisturizer to non spf moisturizer. Their face cleanser are also very mild and fragrance free which I"m currently using.

If you feel like going on a spending spree, try Urth. It's suppose to be one of the best products available but they're quite heavy on the wallet.

Have you tried using a fragrance free hair conditioner for shaving? It works surprisingly well. Jack Black makes a shaving cream that prelube, shave, and moisturizer in one. It's called Jack Black Beard Lube Conditioning Shave. I've tried it and really like it.
