Way back when my husband and I started dating, for some reason or another, we were unable to see each other on the Feb 14th. Imagine how disappointed I was to miss our 1st Valentine's Day>:( . He knew I was very disappointed and tried to make it seem like it was all OK that we were celebrating on the 15th.

Well, one thing he did was he bought me a card that had the tale of Valentine's Day on it. It stated that (now I'm going by memory here) originally Valentine's Day was the 15th of February - something to do with St. Valentine's death. It made me feel a lot better.

We decided to keep the tradition of celebrating the 15th -- it's actually worked to our benefit as we're not paying all of those inflated prices on everything:cheesygri

I looked it up....here's the proof:

Roman Roots
The history of Valentine's Day is obscure, and further clouded by various fanciful legends. The holiday's roots are in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, a fertility celebration commemorated annually on February 15. Pope Gelasius I recast this pagan festival as a Christian feast day circa 496, declaring February 14 to be St. Valentine's Day.

We've had to postpone Vday more than once because of work and it definitely pays off.
Fertility celebration eh? I should try that one with her!

so on the 15th u just walk into a flower shop and prices lower? or you shop earlier and put in date 15th and get better prices?

I wouldn't be surprised if retailers extended the inflated prices right into the weekend. The 14th this year does fall on a thursday...
