I feel like ranting about Ed Hardy so I start a thread where you flame your least favorite brand. Please post yours, or argue with me about Hardy's artistic merit.

Ed Hardy. I can't stand it. It is my current "to hate" brand: I would rather see someone in sweats than just about anything by this label. It has the lack of aesthetic of the artwork print shirts you buy at tourist shops mixed with armani exchanges tackiness. Just too busy, too distracting, and too tasteless. I would be happy if someone can show me the light, show me how a pair of mens dark jeans with a bright skull print accross the ass can go with a shirt with a similar print.

Agree on Ed Hardy.. it would be on my list of top 10 hated brands.

Bape still holds the number one spot for me though, most thoughtless design ever. Probably compounded by the hot shot attitude of the people are still wearing it, proud that they're taking part of a fashion trend from over five years ago.

+1 for the Bape comment. But I'm especially referring to the plain ones that say "BAPE" across the front in regular text and go for $100+ dollars. Ridiculous.

A&F + Hollister are on my list. Clothes that have noxious smells, poor quality and wack logo? It just screams hypebeast... So many A&F clones these days. People buy crappy quality because of the hype and because of the brand. The stitching looks like it's gonna pop off any second.

Ed Hardy is terrible... Christian Audigier fits in that category as well cuz its essentially the same thing. Bape is also terrible. So far... every brand brought up seems to fit in heh.

I actually like A&F's quality (IMO, better than guess and the cheap dkny lines) and the fit works really well for me. The cotton is also super comfy, so their stuff is nice to lie around the house in (if you get it cheap). The logos, the other people who buy it, and the fact that the store is designed to piss people off are my only problems with the brand.

+1 on UGGs and TNA bag+jacket. It's the hypebeast clothing of women these days. Why do people like ridiculously chunky looking footwear? Because they think it's comfortable... u can say the same thing for crocs but those wear UGGs will argue they look cute... nu uh. TNA jacket... most played out thing every winter. Everyone and their grandmother has one. Same goes for the TNA bag... why do people honestly need such a big bag? It looks ridiculous.

All those and those horrible shirts that scream CK and TOMMY HILFIGER on the front..just tacky.

one of my friends at work he had a tshirt from a joke shop and it said Tommy Pullymyfinger.... was actually pretty funny.

Ecko- I don't even consider that "urban" as they have Ecko baby clothing and even kiddy baby phat at the Bay.....so it just makes me laugh.

I also remember when everyone used to have the Club Monaco logo sweats..I was in grade 8 i think...so tacky:cheesygri

I think, well I know girls buy it because of the perceived status symbol of having one, but when they are only 80$ and you have to look like a complete follower of everyone else, you tend to look not so great.

If you are going to the gym, then one of those Lulu or Puma or Adidas big bags will be fine but anything monogram is ugly.

Brands that I don't seem to see what is so great about is Coach, Gucci etc, especially the non-leather products. I concede their leather stuff is good quality for the price, but why are you paying 300-400 dollars for a canvas bag? Howver, their goods aren't that ugly, so more power to them that they can sell them.

Most hated brands are stuff like Rocawear, Shady, Enyce etc. If you gotta tuck it into your socks, its too long.

Ewwww,

Parsuco is really going down as a label.

I just readsaw they have Parsuco for Smart Set jeans for women and the most expensive will be $65.

To me when a once popular "designer" brand if you can call it that starts to make clothing for the lower stores, it means they lose a lot of status.

Like Fairweather, they sell Isaac Mizrahi and he used to be a big designer, now he makes t-shirts that sell for $10 and crappy material.

Money does NOT equal style.

A high price on a piece of clothing doesnt necesarily make it cool or stylish.

And being able to afford expensive clothes does mean you have taste or style.

I'm not sure what your point is. I never said money equaled style and never said Bape was even cool or stylish. Style comes down to the individual and how they piece everything together to make it work. My point was some people were grouping Phatfarm, Ecko, Enyce and etc together with Bape, which really makes no sense considering they're totally different brands.

I'm just saying that the same people saying Bape is trash probably can't afford it either. It's kind of stupid to put down a brand like Bape when you wear Old Navy or something like that. People that wear Bape usually wear it for it's exclusivity and designs.

blizzah
Feb 3rd, 2008, 09:26 AM
People that wear Bape usually wear it for it's exclusivity and designs.

Why are you saying BAPE is expensive, it is only expensive because it had to go through several hands to get to Canada, and each step, that person takes a profit. In Japan, the prices are pretty comparable to clothing here, except it is uglier.

People are ONLY hating on its designs. Most people on this board spend a lot of money on clothing, yet they spend it on clothing that is high quality and good looking. Now I don't know about Bape quality, but all I can say is there is no one who buys those camo sweaters because they LOOK good. People buy it for the name and the right to brag to their friends that even though they look like a tool, they paid extra money to look like that tool.

That said, their T-shirts are nice, but personally, there are other types of clothing that I would rather buy.

anycee
Feb 3rd, 2008, 12:29 PM
Bape is still fairly expensive in the NY bape store. Not as outrageous as in Canada where you are buying (probably fakes) from 3rd parties, but still Bape costs more than twice as much as say, BR or A&F, which are already regarded as overpriced. These prices are still about half of designer fastion, however. No idea about Japanese prices.

I don't hate the brand. IMO the designs are interesting and the exclusivity aspect is sort of cool. I do hate BBC however.

J Lindeberg: I see nothing great about this brand, its only good if you like to be a walking billboard because in all their stuff I see people wear everyday, all I see is that big boring logo, whether it is plastered on a tshirt, hoody, or their belts.

Ed Hardy: Tasteless. I don't really see the appeal in this stuff either... I guess if you like colourful clothing :D

R&R: I see these too much now and like J Lindeberg they just seem like boring as hell, everything is those damn R's or those crowns. I can tolerate them a little on women but on guys it is too mega gay for me. PLUS my friends tell me the quality is pure garbage.

BAPE: To be honest I havent seen much of their clothing, but whenever I see it I just see big B A P E letters stitched on a hoody or whatever. Another walking billboard example... FCUK sweaters and hoodys are another good example of this, but FCUK makes some decent tops other than those so I don't mind them...

Wasn't that 5 things?

But on Bape. Honestly, all the ones you see being worn by kids are FAKE. These wanksters walk into stores like Jazz and Studio47 and think they're hot $hit when they drop $90 for a fake sweater thinking its real. It was supposed to be an exclusive label 'til all the fakes sprouted up. Now you have a herd of kids in high school rocking camo Bape sweaters with oversized jeans from Old Navy.

betheone2
Feb 3rd, 2008, 05:01 PM
I cannot take anyone wearing bape serious, fake or real. Bape is as urban as urban clothing gets, and quite frankly if your still wearing that after age 20, you serious need to check your own maturity. That being said, yes its sad to see a brand get ruined by fakes and little kids especially when earlier generations of bape had a flair to it; however its even more sad seeing people pay half a grand on a sweater, or a bill for a tshirt.

urban1
Feb 3rd, 2008, 05:14 PM
You could make this thread about any trendy brand or fad from any decade.

A particular brand of expensive highend clothing becomes fashionable among stars and the rich. Everyday kids pickup on it. Cool kids start wearing it first. Followers wear it next. By the time the follower is wearing it, the rich and famous have long ditched it for something else and even the cool kids have put the stuff at the back of the closet.

Its pretty easy to create a list of brands that were cool only to become uncool or brands that have whored themselves out and become uncool.

It used to be its own independent brand, and had really nice clothes (mid 90's?), but then they went bankrupt or something. Eventually in the 2000's Target in the states bought them and started selling them and it was horrible then.

Here are brands I've bought and now stay way clear.

When it comes to streetwear, Bape is the originator and still on of the top brands in the game. For the people who wear something equivalent in pricing, is it stuff like Armani, LV, and etc? or Visvim, Mastermind and etc? There's quite a big difference between the 2 considering these groups of brands meet totally different markets and really aren't competing with each other much. Does it really make sense to hate a brand like Bape just because it's not your style?

The majority of Bape you see on the street is fake anyways. It's almost getting to the point of being like LV handbags. To those of us into streetwear, it's pretty easy to tell who's wearing Fape, just from how the rest of their outfit is put together. It's usually baggy jeans with AF1's that aren't clean.

instead of being haters...why not post brands that you've actually bought and had bad experience with it. If you dont like the image of the brand...so be it...dont judge others for liking it.

Here are brands I've bought and now stay way clear.

DKNY - inconsistent fit
Gap - sweater deformed...
FCUK - shirts shrink
Mexx - dress shirts deform and loses buttons
Armani Exchange - fake/poser Amarni...using material that last only once in the washing machine.

Exactly my thinking as well.

Im not being racist lol. Im asian myself, and that black framed glasses are everywhere. Usually a big logo of D&G, GUCCI, or Dior are shown on the side as well

i was gonna go with D&G frames, but swapped to versace after a friend suggested.. good thing too... D&G is everywhere!

4 come to mind:

J Lindeberg: I see nothing great about this brand, its only good if you like to be a walking billboard because in all their stuff I see people wear everyday, all I see is that big boring logo, whether it is plastered on a tshirt, hoody, or their belts.

JL is big out west... rarely to never see it out east

i hate A&F and Hollister. subpar quality for a really high price.

I went to the Hollister Store in the states and the girl comes up to me and has to yells because the music is too loud (and whats with the lighting)- I find some polos and it seems that they are made out of high end toilet paper - I own some of their stuff but this year they gone too far down in quality for me to buy them..

oh yea the Live for malibu beach tv screens they got in every store is fake (its raining in Cali. for the past 3 days) while they show it as a beach party.

A&F spent an amount of $10 million USD to install video walls into HCO stores nationwide.[10] The walls play live feed from Surf City to give shoppers the surfer feel.
