I don't see why not as long as you keep working (600 insurable hrs) until you are ready to take maternity leave (in Nov). Here is something I copied:

To be entitled to maternity, parental or sickness benefits you must show that:

* your regular weekly earnings have been decreased by more than 40%; and
* you have accumulated 600 insured hours in the last 52 weeks or since your last claim. This period is called the qualifying period.

If you have been paid EI benefits in the past and you received a written notice, for example, a warning letter or a penalty letter, for making a false statement, the required number of hours worked to claim maternity, parental and sickness benefits will be higher.

You are eligible to apply for EI maternity earliest 8 weeks before baby's due date, or the week of the actual birth.

You have to have 600 hours WITHIN the qualifying period, which is 52 weeks preceding the date of the application. Since your due date is in Nov 2008, not all of the 700 hours you worked in 2007's gonna count towards your insurable hours for ths EI claim.

Come on, don't be picky at her English. Not all immigrants are from English speaking contries.
