I use Nod32 and is always rated very highly but I heard that it recently failed some test on some antivirus site. No not a review from pcworld but a site like av comparatives. I just don't remember right now. Can anyone comment?

Some people run 2 or 3 antivirus programs. I use Avast because it is pretty good, efficient and it's free. I would never use Norton - too much bloat.

I use Avast. For scanning is use "Schedule Boot Time Scan" this restarts the computer and scan your system before everything(viruses and trojans) starts.
Thats the feature i like about avast. If it finds something then it'll ask you if you want to fix, delete, qurantine...etc.

Been using ZoneAlarm IS with AV for a while but found out it's taking up so much resources. Switched to NOD32. Recently Nod32 caught a virus by clicking a link on a greeting card to www.greetings123.com. Caught it right away and stop the transfer. I was amazed.

The focus these days is no longer on solely on catching viruses, but also on malware.
Pretty well kaspersky, nod32, norton are all excellent in this regard. None of them will catch more than half of the malware out there.
If you want the best package for catching both types, then f-secure is the best by far.

Now why would you ask a question like this just to get a lot of answers like "I bought package X and I haven't had a virus yet to my knowledge, so I think it must be the best AV package ever!"? Please posters, provide some comments on the usability and/or some personal experience of real-world performance against viruses instead of just posting what you use!
As for those looking for an AV package, go do some homework reading real-world test reports! Sites like AV Comparatives test all the major packages against a spread of known and and new viruses ever few months. Packages go up and down in the ratings, so you'll want to look at the performance trend over time instead of taking a snapshot of one test. Then you'll have to read other test reports and user surveys to get a picture of the performance impact, ease of use, and support provided - all of which are separate issues not covered in the comparison tests. You don't want a package that performs well at detecting viruses, but can't remove them, slows your system by half, causes frequent system problems, and has poor documentation and support.

Like said before, people will usually state what they have (if they have never had issues with it). I personally prefer NOD32 because of its unobtrusiveness, and low memory requirements. I had a copy of McAfee which I uninstalled because it was sucking up too many system resources. It may have been a better AV, but it didn't fulfill my criteria of having a very small memory footprint.
Another reason why I haven't gone back to Norton for the last few years. It used to be very demanding on system resources.

I tried AVG before, but it had conflicts with Source games (ie: Team Fortress 2), even when I didn't have the damn thing running in the background.

i use nod32 because:
-it's fast
-it's the most effective detecting new unknow threats (See provided link)
-the only one Advanced + in each category
-it's simple
I was a fan of Kasersky but it's too heavy now

Been using Avast for the past 6 years
Started to use AVG today, both are good, free, and about the same. Should I go back to Avast?
If I go to a website and it has a virus on it, does AVG suddenly pop up a box saying "warning, a virus has been detected"?

You wont be disappointed. I too switched to Nod32 after reading a similar thread to this and haven't looked back since.
